My gunsmith friend has just received a pair of 1895 TR Commemo in 405 winchester. Come with a nice case and the famous book on African game hunts from your famous hunting president Teddy Roosevelt. The rifles are exceptional, with fantastic metal work, polishing, engraving and good wood. The japanese workers from Miroku are really good in assembling and finishing such luxuous guns. There are only 6 pairs for Europe and 3 of them are for French market. This one is already sold to a french collector for 5800 euros including case and book.
Too bad my bank account was empty....

The pictures are not so good cause of bad lightning and they don't serve well such really nice rifles but enjoy if you like.
Wow!!! and to think the pair of rifles will never be fired.

Marseilles, you are a very well connected man.
Here you are in France, and you get to examine the new TR's., when all of Europe is getting only a few examples. Here I am in the USA, where there are supposedly hundreds of them, and no one in any local establishment has even heard of them!
Most ironic.
Hi Mak,

I've good connections, but we waited near 10 months to get the pair plus another Hi grade model. So we've got 3 TR Commemo. We also own four originals: 2 in 405, 1 in 35 take-down and one carbine in 30US aka 30-40 Krag but these are not for selling only for shooting and hunting wild boars and red deers.

Shootist: yes it's high price but when you love you don't count...

If you can grab one of those 95s in 405 it will make a wonderful cast bullet gun.
I had Mountain molds make me a fine 350 grain, gas checked bullet mold for mine and never bothered to load any of the 300 grain spitzers I bought.
A guy in S. Africa used a few of my bullets to drop a kudu, wart hog and some other plains game with his 95. A fellow in Denmark, Sweden. Norway, forgot which, to drop an elk, Moose. And a Canadian dropped a moose with a couple.
Loading data is a bit scarce for the heavy bullets, but it's out there.
Have fun.

Jim

PS
Something I learned real quick, wear a leather glove on your trigger hand. The lever bow will give you sore middle finger some where around the 10th shot.
Arkypete,

I've one original 405, was sold at the begenning of XX century in France for french people living in our african colonies at that time. For the moment i use Hornady and Hawk bullets but thinking to go to 350grs lead slug, may be will look if Montana Bullet works has some with GC cause don't want to mold anymore. done that to much time when younger and importing some from the US is not so expensive. Will try VN120, 130 and 133 powders plus some french ones. Will see. My friend and me are 95 winchester afficionados....
[Linked Image]Here are the 35TD and 30-40 carbine, already posed sometimes ago. Everything original including Lyman sight.
[Linked Image]Small image is an 405TD i forget to told you. Was sold by a british gunsmith in Calcutta British India at the beginning of last century

I have two of the 95s one is the 405 and the other is a 30-06.
I hope to get a third to convert to 375 Whelen.
I'm using Redfield receiver sights on my 95s. I was lucky to find them on Ebay at reasonable prices.
How is the availablity of brass and bullets in France?

Jim
Arkypete,

Before Hornady and Winchester reintroduction of 405 we get cases from Bertram or made case forming from 9,3x74 but now it's ok. Bullets wise we can have all the big name of the US market plus Woodleigh, Norma, RWS,Lapua, Sako and so on. We order also from Hawk and we have molds to cast. We have two monometalic bullets makers in France and i hope one of them can make a good bullet for the 405, these are bullets optimised for battue hunting or Africa with good success rate and lot of afficionados.
