I am thinking about a 50 Alaskan lever action. I know that Woodleigh makes a few bullets for these caliber/lever action applications and am aware that the 525 grain flatnose lead bullets are available. Also, know about the Punch Bullets. Are there any other bullets that would be available for lever action .510 use? Thanks for any info.

For my .50AK i use Hawk bullets 450grs, you have choice of jacket thickness (.025 and .035in) and even one HP for soft and thin skinned game. They work well on any game to and including moose at short range. The 500grs Woodleigh are tougher, of Weldcore construction, good for the game that can fight back. I wait mine to begin test and handloading, it's the bullet i choose for my 2010 september hunt in Australia for buffalos and pigs with my fifty mod 71 custom.
I also use 500grs cast for training at lower velocity than the 630m/s i get with the 450grs (.035) Hawk. About Hawk bullets: i'm not the only one to use them in France for .50Ak (4 other friends, yes, seem strange may be), 45-70, 450 Marlin and 9,3x62, no one complain about performance on wild boars and red deers hunted in battue, so running full speed and filled with adrenaline

Think you can buy some cast bullets from most of the US casters.

Here are two of my handloads with a 45-70 leverevolution to compare. With mod 86 or 71 you can use longer overall cartrige lengh than with Marlin 1895 conversion, can be useful if you're looking toward 600grs bullets...

I use the bonded 450gr Kodiaks from Alaska Bullet Works.

There are plenty of cast bullets too.

personally i think cast is the only way to fly with the 50-110 or Alaskan. jacketed dosen't offer any advantages at the velocities the cartridge produces and they are expensive. i cast NEI 310gr gc, LBT LFN 450gr gc, copy of the old Lyman 512138 with gc shank added @ 475gr, and have used a 580gr LBT LFN originally for the 500 NE.

Will be hunting in Australia in september for water buffalos with my custom 50Ak, bullets will be Woodleigh 500grs, they were tested and Geoff McDonald told me they must do the job. I hope so....

There was a lot of bison killed with dead soft cast bullets a hundred and a few years ago.

For dangerous game Woodleigh just come with a new technology bullet in gilding metal call the hydrostatic bullet. For the .50cal Alaskan it's available in 400grs.Can also be used in 50-110/50-100cal.
Different from lead but surely effective as all Woodleigh. Must be very expensive cause there are sold by ten only...
They are on the 2010 catalog.
Note that i use some 500grs lead bullet from a french made mold in my 50Ak, will also use them on will boars but for something that can weight 2000 pounds and can stomp me i prefer Weldcore and heavy jacket.
