Maybe some of you will enjoy these pictures of my 09-2010 hunt down under with my french made custom original Winch 71 in .50AK.
I booked for a cow hunt wich gave me chance to make lot of stalk and shot some game. Ammo was handmade with two types of bullets: 450grs Hawk FP with .035 jacket and 500grs Woodleigh.
powder was heavy load of VN120 in front of Federal LR primers in Starline cases. I had three one shot kill on frontal chest shot: two with Hawk one with Woodleigh. I had to calf killed by bullets overpenetrating on broadside during the hunting party with Jim Wilson, the real Crocodile Dundee when he was looking for buff meat to feed crocs in farms.
All the shots were taken between 30 to 50 meters except the last i did with the 375H&H of Mark, my guide because i wanted to test the Barnes Banded...
I hunted with Greg Pennicott safaris and service was fantastic, a real hunt in a real hunting place with lots of games and lots of very big bulls for the trophy only minded hunter. http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss198/Hunter4570/DSC_44161.jpg

Sounds cool

Congrats
Fantastic, really great rifle.
Next stop Africa?

Yes, Snow, planning to go in Mozambique with a portuguese friend to hunt "sincerus cafer cafer" after the general hunting season has closed. My friend knows very well a white hunter there who manage game also, at the end of hunting season. Hope we can do something good...Will try the new Woodleigh 400grs hydrostatic bullets in copper alloy, expect to get a bit more speed to flatten a bit the big 50. Penetration with such bullets will be enough i think.
regards

Marseille Did you try eating any of the meat from the various
Buff's. and if so what is your impressions of it. That 50 AK
appears to be the proper medicine for that trip. Thanks for the pictures. Good Hunting. Cheers NC
Marseille, great pic's you bet! I enjoyed looking at those buff and wish you much success in Africa with your lever gun.

Hi northcountry,Hi Tonk

My guide was not to happy to cook the meat and told me that it was too hard so i did'nt taste it. And i regret, next time (2013)will try backstrap.
The .50 was ok for the job, the Hawk bullets performed well in spite of what i had read about, we recovered one, after butchering, gone through the boss, head, brain and was found after one foot course in the neck. The jacket and core separated at the end but were touching each other. May be the .050 jacket would have been better. The Woogleigh were ok too. Woodleigh has one monometal bullet made for the 50, it weight 400grs and must be better but was to late to import in France and test it before leaving. I plan to get some boxes (very expensive) and develop a load for Africa.
May be, also, a Marlin conversion in 50Ak could be better for some people because it's easy to scope, but fixed sights were enough to me.
Dom
