Has anyone set up a Browning Model 71 in guide gun configuration with a scout scope? How about a side mounted scope?

I do have a Carbine with Lyman 56 peep, great rifle. 4 inch groups with a very heavy trigger at 100 yards.

The .348 is not a long-range caliber, especially with flat nosed bullets. I don't see the point of putting a scope on one, because it decreases the usefulness of close shots in the brush, which is what it was designed for in the first place.

Putting a scope on a '71 should get you waterboarded.

I have one set up with the Burris red dot sight, and it works OK, but I'd rather use the Lyman peep as noted by Hornet.

peep only

Water boarding would only be a start.....

Peep sight with the aperture removed (Ghost Ring), brass or gold bead or maybe a sourdough front sight; nice and fast.

I have a browning71 with a scout scope that is awsome! You shoot with both eyes open.

My 13 year old boy took a bison at 180 yards with the 348 the caliber is an easy 200 yard rifle.

Have shot a 71 for years with peep sight. set up as a guide gun can't see why you would want a scope of any kind , just more stuff to go wrong. With that said you would gain more shooting light with the scope, you will have to use a side mount and make sure the brass clears without trouble, if that is what you want to do try it and the heck with what other people say.
