May be a dumb question (most of mine are) but why dont a gun company (marlin would be great) make a lever gun in this cal. Is it even possible? Pressure to high? I wonder why.
Rossi makes a Model 92 in 454 Casull. That's a 65K psi round. But the 460 is probably too long for a '92.
The Marlin 1895 is probably not strong enough to be safe with the 460SW.
Personally I prefer a .458" bore over .451/.452 for a big levergun, as the 458 bullets are engineered for rifle velocities.
Yup, the 45-70 does a pretty good job in the Marlin lever. And a .458" slug weighing 405 grains at 1200-1600 ft/sec is pretty deadly on most of the edibles I have come across.
I'm Guessen the OP has a 460 S&W Hand Gun and wants a Lever to match.
That is what happened to me with the 480R.
But
I think he would be better off with the 454 Casull for both.
I do agree that if you just want a 45 cal Lever you are just better off with a 45/70 or 450M
