Does anyone have any experience with the 1895 "Trapper" STP Model? They look cool with that short 16.25" barrel. There was only 501 of they made back in 2005, and they seem to be hard to find....just seeing if anyone has shot them.

i have the 336 sdt which is the same thing but in a 30/30. SS, grey laminated texan stock, FO sites, 16.5" barrel and only 501 made. it is a very handy little gun. almost toy-like. shoots pretty well but the trigger has a lot of creep and is stiff. my son took it over and loves it for PA deer hunting. all those sdt, stp, etc guns are now running big bucks.

Yeah they are bringing double or three times what they originally sold for...The SBR backpackers look cool too, but require a tax stamp.

I have a 308 trapper in the stainless steel laminated version. (16.5� barrel)
I added the ghost ring sight and lost its factory sight offerings.
I would love to find this same set up in the 45/70 however, In the 308 this rifle is an awesome functional saddle gun that additionally shoots and handles flawlessly.
I carry this firearm more than any other that I currently own and it is with me in the back country all the time.
I am particularly impressed with how it shoots with the open sight arrangement I have range tested it out at two hundred yards on paper with open sights. This set up with factory ammo is very respectable with target groups.
I have yet to try some hand loads but with the factory 160 and the newer 140 coppers this weapon clearly offers a light weight, short, quick handling, and accurate package.
My trigger while not perfect is acceptable with a little noticeable creep and a pull slightly more than what I would ultimately prefer. (I have witnessed far worse)

I think the trigger issue is a Marlin thing really...they all have a little flop and creep while being a little heavy

Your post brings back some memories regarding my adventurous earlier years with: I could say the same with some of my courtships.


Not necessarily a bad thing keep in mind? You know going into it... what you may or possibly could expect out of it? (A little flop with some creep and a "little?" heavy)

I'm fine with my GBL trigger...It shoots great for me.
