I have a 45-70 Guide and may look for a 444 if they made it un-ported.
Do not think Marlin made the 18" 444 in a non ported model
They did do the 450 & 45-70 in 18" non ported
444P was only made for a couple years. I think by the time Marlin was switching to unported Guide Guns, they had quit making the Outfitter. You could get a regular 444 and chop the barrel back to 18" fairly cheaply, if you like the look.
I have an Outfitter and swapped the straight buttstock for a pistol grip set. My favorite rifle (right now!)
I had a 1895S and sold it to buy my G, I really like the way it points compared to the S.
I do want a 444 but a 336 35 Remington will be first unless I find a smoking deal on a 444.
My only gripe about the P!
Otherwise its my favorite big bore ive owned.
Really want the 357 and 35 rem ported models to go with it.
