I just wondered if any of you had one of these rifles? The barrel is half round, half octagon 24 inch, nice walnut forearm and stock, and Marbles front cowboy type sight and semi buckhorn rear. I own two of these as well as a Cowboy 1895. I am sometimes amazed at the different variations of these 1895's that I run into.
I have one of the LTD Vs and think it's just great. I really like the shape and size of the stock, it's much more pleasing in the hands than the regular style.
I have found that the Limited V is much more comfortable to shoot heavy handloads than the Cowboy 1895, and also the Limited still has that old west look to it.
I've got the Limited V, as well as a couple of standard 1895's I like them. I would like to get one of the limeted series with a pistol grip. Not sure which one that is.
Of the five limited editions that commonly get discussed (all in 45-70), I think only the III and V have pistol grips. The III had a pistol grip and a 24" octogon barrel while the V has a pistol grip and a 24" half round/octogon barrel.
Well I thought I had a limited V, but now I don't think so. It has the half round/half octagon barrel, but doesn't have the pistol grip stock which I prefer. Original owner put a pachmayer decelerator pad on it and it's a real nice rifle BUT I prefer the pistol grip. Then forearm and stock, no checkering. The Barrel just says 1895 LIMITED. Possibly Limited I? Input
That's probably the LTD I. See the pic below. From top to bottom is the LTD I - V.

I have been working on my LTD-V for a while now. I am not quite finished. I have put a new stock and forend on and I am working on changing the lever around. I need to get the finish on the stock yet and the lever, butt plate, butt plate screws and the forend cap need to be finished yet. It's not done but here is a picture of it so far....

That rifle looks great! You have really done a good job. The sights and stock look fantastic.
Deputy,
Love what you've done to that rifle. Coupla questions if you don't mind.
1. Did you buy a new lever or modify the factory one?
2. How close does the bolt come to the tang sight when the lever is opened?
3. Can you say where the stock set came from?

Thanks,
Stu

Stu,

I found a donor lever on e-bay. Well actually I found two on there. I found one of the current production pistol grip levers (like the stock one) and an old straight grip lever. I cut the back half off of the new pistol grip lever and grafted the back half of the straight grip lever on. I did not do the welding. I had to have it done for me (pays to have friends who know where to get stuff done).

Once the lever was welded up I reshaped the front half of the finger cut out to match the back half. When that was finished I sculpted the lever out behind the pivot screw like the old ones were. I really want this rifle to look like an old production Marlin.

The tang sight is a Lyman. It fits perfectly between the wings on the bolt. When you open the lever to bring the bolt back the bolt surrounds the tang sight post perfectly. It's almost like they designed it to work that way <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I picked up the roughed blanks for the stock at Treebone carving. If you do a GOOGLE search they should come right up. The guy that owns it is real easy to work with. I probally will work with him again on another project.

Hope that helps and thanks for the kind words.

Super work but if you use heavy loads that crescent butt will kick you into next week.

I shoot the heavy loads in my 1895GS. Those steel butt plates although they do look nice, the kick is rough.

I intend to shoot the lighter stuff in this gun.
