Purchased this gun last year. It has a VERY smooth action and is a tack driver. Hits the 4 in round disks on the target rig at 100 yards with open sights. it puts a smack on the steel at 100 yards. fun to plink with and cheap to shoot.

It is the "golden boy", i think thats what its called. and has the octagon barrel. i like the look of it and should last long after my son gets it.

I bought a Henry .22 LR (not .22 mag) years ago because I liked the way they look and, moreover, was unhappy with the chronic extraction problems I suffered with my Marlin Model 39. In fact, I grew so disgusted with my Mod. 39 that I finally sold it. Although Henrys take a lot of abuse because of their supposed "cheapness," I've not a moment's problems with mine and, as you said, the action is as smooth as snot on a glass doorknob. A friend and I got into a shooting contest with my Henry and his Model 39, and the Henry shot circles around his Marlin.

These are nice rifles but man they have a lot of drop in the stock .

Yes, they do get bashed for being cheap, but I think the price is one of their strongpoints. I have 2 in .22 LR - a youth model for my son and a regular one for me. They have been 100% reliable. I am not real fond of the painted receiver, but at the same time, I don't care if it gets banged around on the ATV or in my truck. I would feel pain if my Win 9422M got beat up.

Any reason a guy couldn't Cerakote the receiver cover?

I really like the polished/clearcoat and the faux case.
I understand how to do the polish/clear but how is the faux case done?

It's a very easy process.
Strip the paint off, polish up with 0000 steel wool, and clean thoroughly with hot soapy water.
Apply cold blueing paste and leave it on for about a minute, then wipe it down under cool running water with a clean sponge.
Repeat blueing process until you get it the color you like.
It may take 2 or more applications to get the finish to where you like it.

A model airplane clearcoat overcoat usually suffices to protect the finish.

BTW - Different brands of cold blue ( Brownell's Oxphy-Blue/Birchwood-Casey/.44-40/etc) will give different colors/results - so if one brand results in a look that's less than satisfactory, just reduex with another brand.

How far did you disassemble the rifle?

The receiver on a Henry has a cover, no serious disassembly is necessary.

There's only five (5) common screws associated with removal of the Henry receiver cover - two on the lower edge of each side, and the top tang screw that holds the buttstock on.

With the screws out, and the buttstock gently tapped off towards the rear, the receiver cover is wriggled upward, away/off the receiver.

Take care, that the bolt (which sometimes "sticks" inside the cover's roof/ceiling) stays atop the action, ILO dropping out on the floor, etc.

I priced a golden boy in WMR ... $475 ... little salty for me. If I'm spending that coin, I'd rather use it as a down payment on a 1894m OR a 9422M
