WaHooo!
Went to the Eugene, Or. gunshow yesterday, did some trading and a lam stocked 9422 mag. follered me home! Can't belive the prices of these guns nowdays. Have owned two walnut stocked XTR's in the past and gave around $200. for them. Had to give $550. for this one. Have only seen pictures of the lam stocked model so they must be kinda rare. Got to dig out some ammo and give this gun a good "shooting" (grin!) Can't post pictures but this is one good looking little carbine! No blue ware or dings. Appears to be brand new. No box though.
One happy old gun "loonie"

Nice find!!
I just bought one off the classifieds here. (my 3rd)
Mine is an XTR 9422M & I don't have it yet. Bought it from mule deer & paid the same price you did.
Here is the picture mule deer sent me. He's on a big mulie hunt right now so it will be about a week before he can ship it but i'm in no hurry, this one is just going to sit in the back of the safe for about 4.5 yrs (until my youngest boy turns 10)
Then he'll have one just like his dad & his big brother.
I'm loony for these little guns, just love em!!
Shot the "new" 9422 Mag. today. Got one 3 shot group of .75" And one 5 shot group of 1.5" at 30 Yards with semi-buckhorn sights. Put a fiber optic front sight on for the last group. Didn't shoot any better, but was able to see the target WAY better! Next change is a Peep back sight...(grin!)I'll keep you posted!
Gotta LOVE them 9422's
Virgil B.
Also wanted to add,
This gun was 1 foot low and six inches to the left at 30 yards. I don't think it was ever sighted in, confirming my guss that it was brand new and never fired.
Also have a 9422 22LR classic model with the pistol grip. Have owned several others over the years. Gotta LOVE the 9422's (grin!)

Anyone have any idea what the production figures were on the lam stocked 94-22, like the one I just got? Just wondering how "rare" it actually is.
Thanks!

Virgil ... post a pic ... never seen one
I posted this on another thread. . .
http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FIREARMS/winchester_9422.pdfCheck this link. Its a 9422 owners manual and mentions the laminated stock. It also makes a statement of "0ver 25 years ago. . " Since first year production was 1972, this means the laminated stocks were produced in the mid 90's time frame. From what I recall, I don't think Winchester stayed with the "Wintuff" laminated line for more than 5 years. Just from that standpoint, it makes the laminated stock version a bit more of a rarity and they do seem to command higher prices.

George,
Sorry!.. I'm not able to post pictures. No digital camera. Got to get out of the "stone age" someday..(grin!)

Setters,
Thanks for the information!

FYI - Winchester made two different laminated stock 9422's, for 10 years each - the WinCam (green lamo) 1987-97, and the WinTuff (brown lamo) 1988-99.

Thanks for the information!
Mine is the brown lamo.

I handled a 9422 mag today in a pawnshop price was
599, didnt have a laminated stock though. Nice little
rifle.
Have had a bunch of 22mags over the years, down to 4 now. Two bolt marlins, a 57M Marlin, and a greenlam 9422m. The 9422m will shoot as good or better that the bolts. Had a Marlin 94M several years ago that didn't feed worth a hoot and wasn't squirrel head accurate. The 9422m is a keeper.
9422 Win-Tuff (brown lamo)
9422 Win-Cam (green lamo)
Rangr44,
Yep, the brown lamo. 94-22 is just like mine!
Thanks for the picture!

Nice rifle. I didn't know they made laminated stocks on them.
Last week, I traded for this 9422 (not Mag) with a walnut stock. It's my first Win lever rimfire ever. It was unfired when I got it, but it isn't now. It's the trapper model, I guess: not very familiar with the rifles. I know I like it.

I know this is an old thread, but...
Winchester also made a gray laminated stock in 17HMR, and they called it a 9417. I have one I bought new in 2004.
I had a 9417 and have regreted selling it. I also a several 9422's and 9422m's. I have a Final Tribute model and a 9422 with what I would call a gray laminate stock. It is a good looking gun. Not to mention an excellent shooter

You know I hear tell gluttony is a sin. Be happy to relieve some of your burden in the 9422M area.

Did you ever get around to putting a receiver sight on it? I put a Williams Foolproof receiver sight on my 9422, but without drilling and tapping the receiver the only way I could do it was to get the sight that clamped to the receiver grooves for the tip-off scope mount. It works but it doesn't look too rugged.
Tom,
I ended up putting a Leupold 4X rimfire scope on it.
Had to get it ready for a sage rat hunt, so it had to be scoped.
I really wanted a peep, but like you say, gotta be drilled and taped for a "proper" peep.
Have a dovetail williams "guide" peep on a 94-22 Legacy, but it just isn't the same as a side mount sight.
Virgil B.
I have receiver sights on all my lever guns; scopes on my bolt gun and autos.
Ya,
I know, it just dosen't look right, but the darn thing SHOOTS great with the scope on it.
Someday the scope is coming off, and a proper peep is going on.
Virgil B.
I use scopes on my Marlin 39A and 39M to test the gun and test ammo. That told me that the 39M was much more accurate than the 39A. It prompted me to get the barrel replaced. Now they are both equally accurate. After the testing, the scopes came off.
TOM,
Am thinking a tang peep would be really cool on the 94-22 Mag.

These are awesome guns.
I have 9422M Legacy in .22Mag., a Trapper in .22LR and a Carbine Beater in .22LR that I picked up at a garage sale a few years back.
Here is my first year 9422 mag with factory hard case.
Cartod,
That's one good looking 92. Great looking wood.
Bet It's worth a "pretty penny"
Virgil B.
I have a 9422LR with the WinTuff stock, which will never part from me. Great little plinker!
I just came across a 9422M with a grey laminated stock. I've seen the brown laminate, but this is the first grey one I've seen. Can anyone tell me how common these are, and if the value is siginificantly different from the standard walnut 9422M's?
Thanks,
Kevin
... Can anyone tell me how common these are, and if the value is siginificantly different from the standard walnut 9422M's?
I guess I know the answer to that question now!
Laminated 9422M They're nuts if you ask me!
Agreed!
Wow!
Man, what a price!
Must have got a better deal than I thought!(grin!)
These guns are kinda rare, but not THAT rare!
Virgil B.
A local fellow just put an excellent condition 9422M up for sale at $1000.
It will be interesting to see if it sells at that.
well, if it does, tell him he can buy my 9417 and pocket $200 !!
(smile)
Always thought that a Win 94/22 in 22 mag would be my choice if I could only have one gun for survival.
Too bad they are discontinued because in my mind they were an instant classic with the all time great rifles.
Also, a sad commentary that Winchester isn't producing a .22 rimfire.
I bought a 9422M XTR and put it away in my safe when they closed the plant and stopped production. I paid $399 for it and think it was a good investment. Seeing what they go for now makes me wish I had bought two, one for shooting and one to be put away! At least I can get mine out once in a while to admire!
Next change is a Peep back sight...(grin!)I'll keep you posted!
Gotta LOVE them 9422's

I added a peep to my 9422m and had to put a higher front sight on it, boy what a difference. Group sizes cut in half or less.

I really like that, I could use a couple of those rear sights, where would I look for one?

Did you have to change front sights or did the factory front sight work?
