What is your opinion of this rifle?
Posted By: carlos111 Re: Win 9422 opinions??? - 03/12/04
I like mine. I had a receiver sight put on it and it shoots as well as a .22 mag will. I didn't have to do anything to the trigger, unlike the Marlin 39a .22LR I bought a few years ago.

There isn't a handier rifle to carry around in the woods than an iron-sighted lever gun.

Yep. I've got the 94-22 and the 94-22M. I have never fired the 94-22 because it's the 2001 NWTF Jake's Commemorative and it's destined for my grandson, Jake.

I've worked the butt, (joke), off the 94-22M and it's great. Smooth action, crisp trigger and dead nuts accurate with Federal Premium ammo.

Looking for another one, (either caliber), without checkering because the M checkering is so sharp it cuts into wifey's dainty finners.

The weight of game mine have (yes, plural, both the standard 9422 and the 9422M) dispatched could undoubtedly be measured in tons (plural again). About the only time I don't carry the 9422 in my scabbard is when I'm carrying a M94 30-30 in it.

Thanx guys. Can not wait to fire it.
I had one years ago in the .22 wmr chambering. I foolishly traded it away, and have regretted it ever since. With CCI Maxi Mag 40 grain HP's, it would group one inch at 100 yards from a crude rest, and I could bust 8 ounce drink bottles at 150 yards with it easily. A friend of mine has one in the long rifle chambering, it's a nice rifle, good trigger, no feed problems, good finish, etc. Hard to beat rimfire rifle.

Phillip and Two Dogs, I have a 9422M with smooth wood (early model) that never leaves the safe. Has one small rough spot on the tip of the barrel but other than that is in great shape. Hate to get rid of any of my toys but would let this one go for $ 350. Phillip, your close enough to come take a look, as I am over in Huntsville and well known to the Wiley folks here. TM

I got mine in 1973 (smooth stock model). I have shot hundreds of squrriels, rabbits, birds, a coyote and thousands of various targets. I wouldn't trade or sell that 22 rifle for anything. It has always been a straight shooter with a smooth action. I have worn the blueing off in spots on my reciever, dented the stock from many childhood adventures, but other then that it's the same gun it was when it came out of the box!
i got the 9422 and its great. at 25 yards from a steady sandbag rest with the origonal sights. put a 5 shot one ragged hole group. im still trying to figure that one out. is the tang sight worth it?

Excellent 22, I put a Simmons 22 mag 4x on mine for my aging eyes. I use it around the palce to bust alot of squirrels and do a lot of plinking I wouldacrry it my scabbord, but I have a Rossi .357 Mag Model 92 that gets that use.

I love mine, very accurate.

I've got the 9422M in the traditional straight stock, cut checkered walnut. I got it a few years back when I went to the gun store to buy a .17 hmr when they first came out. (All our friends were doing it, I thought I needed one too) Well, I looked at several bolt action .17hmr rifles, I stood there holding that cute little 17hmr bullet.... what the heck was I going to kill with that I wondered.... I want to drop anything from gophers to coyotes...... I wanna shoot fox at 100 yds, this didn't look to me like it would do the job. My visit to the store looking for a 17hmr rekindled my curiosity for the 22 mag. I had always wanted a 9422, heck why not a 9422M? That's what I left the store with & I love it. My wife bought me a Burris fullfield 2 3-9 40mm gloss black scope for it a couple of years ago, what a nice combo. I love it.

Yikes! I hope not! I'll have to check that out. I've got a few kids that are growing up fast & I'd like to think they deserve the privilage of being able to enjoy one of them fine little rifles new out of the box for them selves if they should choose to buy one some day. That would be a shame to drop that little lever from the winchester lineup.
Posted By: northern_dave Re: Win 9422 opinions??? - 11/30/04
oh no, it looks like you are right Gregor. I read what everyone had to say on them other sites, still didn't believe it so I called Winchester customer service & asked them. It's true, the rimfire levers are done. The 9422, the 9417, it don't matter if it's a legacy or a traditional, it's all done. Sounds like limited volume for 2005 them just collectable runs after that. Man, that sucks bad. I think I'm gonna cry. If you folks that know about the little winchester levers and love them like I do have kids/grandkids, I guess I'd think about grabbing up what you can of what's out there in the stores & hanging on to them for your kids. Holy crap what a crime, I just can't believe it. Hit them little hardware stores & scoop em up while you can, you know you can't lose money on them. Dang it anyways. this deserves it's own post.

Go to www.winchesterguns.com and you can see the tribute models, they are beautiful. Sad to see this lttle gun go, once they are out of production the prices will only go up, so get 'em while you can fellas.

I didn't do as well as your offer, but I did find another M with the smooth stocks at a gun show yesterday. It shows very little blue wear but has what looks like a blood stain on the left side of the receiver and a ding or two in the wood. I paid $400 out the door and then, later, found another one at the same show being offered for $375. I think it may have been in even better shape than the one I bought.

I'm not suffering much buyers remorse though. We stopped off on a chunk of BLM land on the way home and ran a couple dozen rounds through it. Everything seems to work fine and internally it looks nearly new.

I have a 9422M XTR that my Dad bought for me in 1979. I shot it some when I was younger but now that I'm grown the stock is awfully short. Even though I rarely take it out of the safe (only to oil it)it has a place in my family for many more years to come. It is without a doubt one of the finest finished production guns I have ever seen!

I have a 9422m and the more I shoot it the more accurate this thing gets. I was shooting snow balls at 100 yards with this thing with open sights. I was having so much fun I shot up the whole box of 50 in no time. I had a scope on it for a while but I like it much better with open sights. I dropped it down to dead on at 50 yards for small game this fall. I love this litte lever and now find small game hunting something I love to do again.
