Me and Sally the dog, went for a little walk this morning and managed to harvest a few of the local Quail.

Upon cleaning, I was suprised to see that none of the pellets had hit the breasts.

Now I ask ya,,,, is that good shooting or what? grin

(Course, it might just be an indication that I only connect on straight away shots. blush )

Well done!

I wish we had quail in Montana, but I get to Idaho often enough not to feel too bad about it--and Huns aren't a bad substitute.

I like the shotgun too....

Thanks
I was just amazed how clean they were. Almost looked store bought.
Well,,, cept for that one unaccounted for leg.

Plenty of Huns around here too, although the Pheasant numbers are so good this year, I haven't really chased em.
Early season Huns IMO are about the best bird out there for working a young dog.

Thanks, it was my retirement present.

20ga Merkel IC/Mod
Handles like a dream despite the single trigger.

It's about all I use any more.

Wishing we had quail around here worth chasing.

Been looking at a few Merkel 1620's as well, double trigger only though. smile

I also prefer double triggers, but I sure ain't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially when it's a Merkel.

Shame what's happened to America's Quail population.
Progress and technology huh?
I'd hardly call it progress, but that's another thread.

Believe it or not, the first PA grouse I ever shot only had
one pellet wound to the head.

Yea,,, you know I love that little scatter gun Bruce. (Single trigger and all wink )

Talked to my buddy in Lovelock this morning. Sounds like ya'll are having a mild winter with some good moisture so far. Hope it holds.

We're getting a good warm steady soaker right now. Not too hard and fast, just steady and moderate. After this last 1 1/2 year I never thought I would see rain again.
