Old Rocky and Cookie got the cobwebs cleared out after the second bird and showed flashes of brilliance today. I wish I could say that about my shooting, but we worked out enough birds that Owen and I knocked down five over five staunch points by Rock and three honors by Cookie.

Owen got two; I got two, and, we both whacked the last bird. We had perfect weather with sufficient moisture and a light steady breeze from the southwest that never shifted or swirled. Rock would work downwind, acting birdy to alert us, then he worked on up close enough to hold the bird and would wait for me to catch up and flush it. Cookie the enthusiastic retriever nailed three birds that hit the ground and started running.

I need to do this more often.

That's awesome! Rosie's feeling neglected due to big game seasons. Weekend after next will be back to birds, weather permitting.

She'll just have to smell the flowers, I guess.

Next to shooting the watching the "Dogs Work" up some birds is so gratifying. Dogs doing what they were bred to do.
