Been running a pair of Danner Canadians for a LONG time and its time for a new pair of something, I like the Danners but my current pair are real heavy.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Big Danner fan here too......try the "Grouse" or the "Sierra" if you need insulation.......

I like the Kangaroo Featherlight but when I tried them on they didn't fit me very well, they are nice and light.

Kangaroo featherlights are nice and light, but slippery in the snow. I would get a hotspot on the heel after about 10 miles. The Meindl's work for me. I have heard good things about the Irish Setter boots. The problem is that a pair of boots might feel great in the store, but that could all change after you put on some miles. That is what happened to me with the Kangaroo featherlights. Buying boots can be an expensive crapshoot.

Kangaroos don't hold up for me.....slippery sole....poor arch.

The Danner Pronghorn is a great field boot but a bit heavy...


The Red Wing Speed Freak is wonderful for me....very light with great traction.....the Gore Tex seems to work well.

The Kangaroo soles are very slippery....

Danner pronghorns are great for a full leather boot, my hunting partners love them.

For going on 9 years now I have been hunting upland (chukar) a ton in Asolo Fugitive GTX, and just last year got a new pair and opted for the Asolo Power Matic 200's. I also wore both these boots for big game seasons.

My Fugitive's lasted about 8 full seasons and hundreds upon hundreds of miles before the sole separated from the upper while packing out a deer. I had the one boot glued back together by a cobbler, and still wear them a couple days a week for dog training, etc.

Lowa gets my vote right now. I've tried Filson, Merrill, Asolo, and many others. Dry and comfortable from the minute you put them on. Lots of models I like the Tibets.

Friend who hunts a lot recommended these highly. Decided to give them a try and they are pretty good. The boa closure is easy on/off. It has reasonable traction, comfortable and has held up well. With the exception the new Pup thought the left one would be a good thing to chew on and ate the boa knob off. To the boots credit he had to work at it. FWIW, liked them well enough I bought another pair

I wear Asolo lightweight hikers for all non Mountain hunting and as my work boot (field Surveyor). Not water proof but supportive and light. I wear Kenetrek Hardscrabbles for more serious terrain and when weight loads could get heavy.

I have the Cabela's Kangaroo, slippery sole in the snow, no arch support, no ankle support, but very light. Perfect for fall grouse hunting in the woods. But very unsuitable for conditions requiring good footing and arch and ankle support.

I recently purchased a pair of ll bean. Kangaroo skin boots.
Fit fine and wore them in the field last week.
Light weight and comfortable.

I'm also a Danner fan, but only those made in the U.S. My favorite bird hunting boot for cool to cold weather is the Hood Winter Light. I have two pairs, I like them so much.

I bot a pair of Meindl Ultralight Hunters (Cabelas) on the way out to SD last October. Fit my feet great from Day 1, very light, excellent traction and waterproof so far. Really comfortable, almost sneaker like and have held up very well so far, with no signs of trouble in any area.

If some of you guys are suffering foot pain I highly recommend you drop $40 bucks or so on some of these quasi-fitted insoles that they sell everywhere now. There are a few different makes but they all seem to work well. Stand on the thing, buy the appropriate color. I'm sure you've seen the displays.

Runners pay close attention to pronation for good reason. It's never been so easy to adjust minor fitting issues with different boots.

Superfeet insoles are the bees knees! I wear the green ones.

They're pretty bad ass.

In the dark recesses of my trap-like memory, I seem to recall you hating boots. Is this the gnu ewe? Did it only take 12 steps to change your mind? See what I did there?

I have not worn boots in years but decided to try a dedicated pair for hunting this year.

I still prefer a non-boot.

I bought a pair of Danner Sharptail's (the lace up version) this winter. Been hiking with my 2 GSP's this winter every weekend covering 2-3 miles at a whack, no issues and they are SUPER comfortable.

I really like my Camino gtx Lowa boots. I use them with the super feet carbon insoles and wool socks.

I do a great deal of side hill walking in very rocky terrain after coues wt and especially mearns quail. I like the support and durability.

Two very rough seasons and the boots are starting to show the abuse with the soles worn down some. The leather is still going strong. I may get a new pair for the upcoming season. I will be staying with Lowa. Think the next pair will be one of the Tibet models.
