I recently bought a very nice Steyr Kropatschek on one of the auction sites. I"m using brass from Buffalo Arms, the gas checked bullet from the same Lee mould I use for my straight-pull Steyrs and Triple Seven powder.

After some experimentation, I settled on 55.0 grains of 777 and the above bullet. Since it has a gas check, I used nothing else over the powder.

I flipped the sight clear over to the front & used the notch on the sight pivot pin.

It is dead on @ 200M! Right to the sights!! Due to a hectic work schedule, it will be a while before I can get out again but will shoot for group & chronograph a string to test for consistency. I am VERY happy with the rifle!

Just got dies, brass & a mould ordered for my 71/84 Mauser & if anyone has an accurate load using the Lyman 43 Mauser mould, I'm very interested in it! SW

Used to buy " Dominion" smokeless ammo, off the shelf, in the '70's / Western Canada.......Anemic, and inaccurate, probably hard on the barrel......can't tell ya' what mold I had for the thing...but cast bullets, lubed with Bear Lard, or "Sno-Seal)....in front of stout BP charges woke that 71 / 84 of mine right up..........GREAT moose gun.

No wheelwhieghts, cast a fairly soft alloy....

Use a card wad......

If you go the other route ( White powder)....that " Trailboss" powder from Horndoodle may be worth checkin' out .

Had a Kroopotschek....was gonna build a .45-90 repeater on it.....some joker offered WAY to much $$$ so didn't get to it....
Definately an odd caliber....but I'm sure that you'll agree that modern "Gun Makers / Factories" could take a hint from the quality of fit and finish.......Is you're K. a Steyr ?

Yep! Mine's an 1886 OEWFG ( Steyr) Kropatschek with Leopoldo I cartouches on the receiver & stock. It was more than I wanted to bid, but every numbered part is matching!

It's in NRA antique excellent cond & shows by the ring at the muzzle it wore a bayo on many occasions. It would sure be cool to know in which Portugese colony it served. SW

It would sure be cool to have an exact figure....on what all the Champagne, and prostitutes, laudanum, cocaine, and other recreational
" Defense Procurement Expenses" went into nailing down the Portugese contract....for Steyr.

I've got some rough notes, and inklings......but it's a funny yarn...in the making.

Everything changes, everything remains the same
( particularly in defense contracting.)

Beautiful Rifle, Bud.
