I have a buddy that owns a Ballard in 40-63 Ballard.
It's in good condition and he'd love to shoot it as it's a family piece.
I know nothing about this one so I'm putting it out to you guys, HELP!
Is it unique to itself or can brass be made from something more common?
I'd appreciate your thoughts!

My first Ballard (love 'em) was a 40/63. I made brass from 30/40 cases and had Steve Brooks make a mould that I designed (350 gr. @ 20/1) that shot really well with a case full of 2F. Terry

Thanks Terry,
I did some reading last night and the 30-40 cases look like the natural choice.
We'll be doing the brass and dies roundup and see how it goes.

You might want to check with Micheal Rix. Pretty sure he shoots a 40-63.

Also, Rocky Mountain Cartridge Co. can make almost anything that has existed in the cartridge world - I had (and still have) some 40/90 Ballard Everlasting (3 1/16") cases made up by them. Very knowledgeable! Terry

Thanks Gents,
I saw that Rocky Mtn can make the cases but I don't think my buddy wants to spend the needed coin.
Somewhere I have a book of cartridge conversions...
405Win seems possible...
We have time, dies will be ordered and we'll wait.
