Well, after 12 years of picture perfect ownership with this Ram 2500 cummins I have had something go wrong.

My ABS light came on the dash, brakes work fine, just the light is on. Manual says that the brakes default to normal operation when the light is on. Summer driving does not usually require much in the way of ABS. However I've gotta figure this out. An acquaintance of mine said it's typically a sensor that is bad or a connection that is bad. One for each front and one on the rear axle. It comes on when driving after the engine is started between 10 minutes and 2 hours. Sometimes it does not come on at all. It happens when cruising down the motorway at 60-75mph without touching the brakes.

Guess I'll have to dig into this now.

I have a similar issue with my '04 Hemi 2500. The brake warning light comes on intermittently. AFAIK, there are no mechanical issues with the brakes. The light eventually goes off. It's a little irritating, nothing more.

Had the same thing happen on a POS Volvo station wagon I owned The module was 1k alone
Same thing happened to my 98. Bad sensor.. Take it to a real brake shop, not Brakes Plus, Tire World, or Discount Tire, etc.
I have an 06' Dodge Cummins. Never had any issues till last fall. Lost an injector.

Other than that, it's been a great truck
Happened on my 99 Ford. Sensor in the rear pumpkin, enters through the top. A $30 part from Napa and ten minutes for me to swap.
I have 2 Dodge Rams 1998 1/2 ton Sport 4x4 5.2l and 2006 2500 4x4 5.9 diesel. On the 98 the ABS and brake lights come on when started and stay on until engine is shut off. This happens every 3rd or 4th times I run it. Have change the rear sensor and it did not fix the problem. It only has ABS to rear wheels. On the 2006 2500 I get a ding sound and the ABS brake light comes on for a second when I turn a sharp corner. I suspect a short on one of the front wheels since it has ABS sensor on all 4 wheels. The 1998 has 234,000 miles on it and the 2006 has 61,000. Just recently started on my 2006. Tom

Yup, had the same on a ford Explorer. Seems like most of the 'modern' vehicles have sensors in the rear differential and the front hubs.
I have the same thing happening to my 2000 GMC. Had it to the mechanic twice. First time he put it on the computer, but couldn't find anything wrong. Through the computer he fixed the light for awhile. It came back on a few weeks after so back to the shop. He tested it again. He said the brakes are fine, but the light may need replaced. When we get the time that will be done. As of now it is a minor annoyance.
Happened on my 2006 Ram 2500... It was the sensor on the rear axle...cheap and simple to change
Same thing on my 99 dodge cummins, speed sensor on the rear differential went out. It's just a sensor with a magnet in it on top of the pumpkin, look to see where the wires hook up. It counts the revolutions of the ring gear to see if the brakes have locked up.

It should be a pretty easy and relatively cheap fix.
