My Tundra 4.7L only has 153K. That is the highest mileage I ever had on a vehicle.

243,000 on my 98 dodge ram sport 4x4 5.2l

373K and something on the 97 Tacoma I bought new. Then my son wrecked it.

286K on the 96 F250 diesel. She's getting very tired...

138K on the current Tacoma. She's not tired at all

Modern vehicles last a long time if you care for them.....

Oh, and it was bought new in Sept 1987... its an 88 Model... It had two miles on it, when I took delivery... 2200 RE Motor and a 5 speed manual.

Yep........that's the one!

It's kind of a curve-breaker for this thread, but cool nonetheless. smile
I have an '87 Bronco II that I inherited. It has a hair under 250k. The clutch is going fast, 1 cyl has low compression and it loses a little water out the exhaust (head gasket maybe?). It also needs new bearings in the T-case. It starts easily in the coldest weather but riding on 5 cylinders with the clutch slipping at every stop light makes me wonder if I'll get home.
Other than that it's cherry.

297k on my '03 Cummins when I sold her. 68k now on my '14.

There are a couple of Cummins truck around with over 2 million miles, and more than a few with 1 million plus.....
i am on my 2nd 4runner , after 190k miles still runs perfectly .

expecting to trade for 2018 4runner.

"Highest miles on a truck"

Last time I looked at the odometer on my Tundra, it had the highest miles I'd ever seen on it. wink
My '99 dodge/Cummins has 385K. I still use it as a work truck pulling my 32' gooseneck with heavy loads. Pulls as good as ever.
Posted By: RyanTX Re: Highest miles on a truck - 12/13/16
Highest mileage I ever had on a vehicle before selling it was 145k. Just bought my son a 1999 f250 Super Duty with the 7.3 PS from a friend that has 234k on it. He replaced the injectors and glow plugs about 7 months ago. So far, it drives fine and doesn't even leak a drop of oil.

Didn't really want to get him a diesel, but I knew the history of the truck. And, I traded a Browning Hi-Power and $500 cash for it smile Hoping it will last him a few years or so.

Your friend has an awful lot of miles on him. But that's a smokin' deal.

2004 Duramax 196,000
1993 Dodge Cummins 224,000
1992 Dodge Cummins 211,000

A few years back, I sold my 1997 Chevrolet Suburban that had 265K on the clock.

5.7L engine w/the original auto transmission and axles, not bad for pulling a BIG boat year after year and it still ran like new.

My '00 F250 V10 has 150'sh. Not too much.

My last Subby went 260ish but I only put maybe 20k on it. Died in a crash.

One of our parts couriers has a Toyota p/up, 4 cylinder 2WD automatic, not sure of the model year, with 740k miles on the original engine and transmission. Astounding, as It's mostly stop and go driving. The truck looks like crap, but still runs well for him.
Posted By: stantdm Re: Highest miles on a truck - 12/14/16
I don't keep vehicles long enough to get over 150,000 miles. My neighbor does though. He has a Cummins Diesel with 365,000 miles on the original engine. Not a record but a lot of rough miles on that ranch truck.
Posted By: SamOlson Re: Highest miles on a truck - 12/14/16
We have 2003 F350 that only has about 120k on it but has been to hell and back.

It's literally wore out and doesn't go too far from home. Not worth much but it's a good backup feed pickup.

I drive a 2003 F350(140k miles/6.0) and the way I use it, it'll be good for at least another 140k miles.

Wife's '11 Explorer has 16-18k miles.

A few years ago I went to look at a Ford gas engined truck advertised in the local paper. The ad said 40,000 miles, never off the ranch. I should have known they were all hauling stuff, looking for stuff, going out in all weather. It was one of those trucks you see now and then going down the highway and the body is sort of cocked about six inches off to one side. This truck looked bad from a distance.

How do you drive 100,000 miles a year. You have to be on the road 24/7.

I know a lady that bought a new 99 powerstroke. She had 800,000 on it last I heard. Said she changed the oil once a week. Drove from Phx to somewhere in the Midwest and back every week and pulled a trailer full of small pets!

My F250 only have 260,000. Runs great but I want a new truck.

5 days a week for 50 weeks is 250 days. That's driving 400 miles per working day. It can be done.

Just bought a 2000 last December. 108,000 at purchase....127,000 now. Dang...Still looks and runs like a new vehicle.....

After I changed both front and rear brakes and rotors, both spring shackles, Air filter, plug wires, plugs....(They are neat, have to go through the wheelwell for a few of them), The MAF and MAP sensors, I think I'm good....for a little while at least.

A friend of mine had a late 90's Ford Aerostar. Not sure which engine. To change the rear plug, you had to literally pull the engine. He sold it with about 100k. The plug was still working ok and he wanted to be shed of it when it had to be changed..

Paul, that's awesome. I really miss that truck. The new one doesn't have the balls that the '03 does, and uses more fuel in the city and while towing. I just hope it gives me the good service the the '03 did.
The Cummins engines will hold up a long time but it's necessary to keep up with maintenance on the rest of the truck to get those high miles. The Dodges have some weak points. Mine's an 08 with just over 100k. I had to replace the clutch at about 90 and the tie rods and ends at about 95. The ball joints are famous for failing, too, but so far mine are ok.

Had an 03 z-71 I bought new. Traded in 2013 with 225,000 mikes on it. Didn't want to get rid of it but wife thought we needed a car with kids on way. Rebuilt water pump and two catalytic converters were only non routines done on it.

Dad bought an 88 Toyota 2wd new. He did some carb work on it then face to me with 160k. I put another 120k on it through high school and college. Gave it back with 280k and two starters in that time and a clutch master cylinder.
Have you noticed? We always seem to complain about how much better the old cars were & how much easier they were to work on. But, we don't see many of them in this thread. They were all worn out at 100k.

It was done at 90K at Toyota.
When they did the new frame at 110K they also did the radiator, brake lines, and exhaust.
I just had my mechanic friend replace the original fan belt because it was squeaky. He refused to replace it for a couple of months because he thought scotchbrite clean was good enough. Hard to get him to do PM stuff... I want to hang new parts to keep it in shape. It is a cherry. Pretty optimum for my hunting needs.

It's still new in the box. Let us know how it runs when it gets to 100k.
I assume you meant 330,000 or something similar? grin
Rock Chuck, the R 350 has only 33,000 but it sits mostly.New U -joints, shocks, brakes, starter, and a winshield wiper bushings recently. Has a utility bed w/ladder rack, and is my hunting/camping truck, the tool boxes hold a unbelievable amount of gear. But my favorite vehicle is a 2003 Mercury Marauder, 210,000 mi.,prolly the only Marauder in the USA with that many mi., and bone stock also, gets 22/25 mpg if I behave myself.
Interesting. It's a rare vehicle to be that old with such low mileage. Usually they're a garage find where someone died and the kids just parked it and forgot it.
Rock Chuck, you kinda nailed it, it's former life was that of a plumbing truck w/Virginia prison system.

217k on my 2005 Tacoma . . . . and rolling.
Since some here have mentioned suv's, I'll follow suit. My '09 ford escape AWD has 240,000 miles on it and still going strong. Little 3.0 duratec motor is flawless and puts out nice power (same performance numbers as '93 5.0 Cobra Mustang), while still getting 26 mpg on the freeway. Just changed the oil the other day and I'll say with complete honesty that it doesn't use a drop of oil in 5,000 miles. I expect to get 400,000 out of it easily...
I've never put that many miles on a pickup, but my Dad's 73 Chevy 4x4 was worn out at 53000 miles. The cam lobes were so worn it couldn't be properly timed, was on it's 4th clutch, and the 4wd lever was loose as can be. It was was 17 years old, had fed cows every day of the winter feeding season for that time, and had hauled fuel, a sprayer, and gone fencing and farming all those summers. He changed oil every 800 miles since it seldom saw more than 10 miles of highway at a time.
The guy who now leases that farm has a 96 F250 with the 460 motor. Was riding with him noticed it wasn't pulling too well, asked him how many miles. He said he wasn't sure cause there was so much dust behind the plastic in front of the odometer, but the first number was a 4! But along with the farming/feeding miles he puts a lot of highway miles on too.
Posted By: toad Re: Highest miles on a truck - 01/27/17
had a '74 GMC ranch truck. we put 400K+ miles on it, with very few easy miles. it did take four rebuilt engines, numerous clutches, ect... and it wasn't pretty at the end of it all, but I wish I could get one like that again.
Ive got a 2003 z71 Tahoe that now has 330,000 miles on it. I did however put a Hummer H2 rear end under it with 4.10s and a Eaton Elocker and a front diff out of a 2005 z71 with 4.10s.
Along with a 6.0 i rebuilt with heads and a cam.
The 6.0 come out of my silverado that i put 260,000 miles on. 220,000 miles of that was with a Isky Turbo cam and a 75mm turbo making a little over 650HP and towed with it every week and played at the drag strip many times. 320# of nitrous and gallons of -30* Windsheild Washer Fluid was consumed in its life time.

Lifter took out a cam lobe so i rebuilt it and put it in the Tahoe where it now has 310,000 miles on it and going back with the same turbo i had on the silverado. Love to hear the whistle..

Freshened up the 5.3 out of the tahoe and put a smaller Isky cam in it with better heads and put it in the silverado with a smaller 68mm turbo.

Thats the only 2 trucks ive ever had so cant add much else..

I got 300,000 out of a 350 in a Chevy
220,000 on a 2000 F150. Current 2004 F250 has 105000 on it and has been in the shop far more than my F150 ever was.
Not really a truck, but my second cousin swears he put over 500,000 miles on an "OJ" style Ford Bronco. It was primarily highway and he ran AMsoil.
268,000 miles on a 1981 F150 with the inline 300, 6 cylinder. The guy who bought it ran it for 3 or 4 more years....
My 04 Dakota 4x4 4.7 V8 has 308000+ on it and I run the snot out of it every day.
Let's go the other direction. I am driving a 1987 Jeep Cherokee 2 door with only 64000 miles on it. Bought it December 2015 with 57000.
It is now my daily driver. Liking it more every day.
Take care, Les

Well, my parts delivery guy's Toyota finally died about 3 weeks ago. He sold it as a parts truck to some kid who needed some body panels for $300.00. 751k miles on the original engine and transmission (Automatic). He bought it used with 60k miles on it, and it spent it's entire life in stop and go Metro Atlanta traffic. Quite an accomplishment.

I bought a 1995 F-150 302/5spd in 1998 with just over 100K on it. Previous owner made an ~80Mi round trip commute to work on 4-lane blacktop. I sold it 5yrs later with just under 200K. I replaced the plugs and had the front suspension (tie rods/ball-joints etc) rebuilt right when I bought it. Had the 5spd rebuilt @ 175K, the fork for 2nd/4th was so worn that I only had 1st/3rd/5th to get to the tranny shop.

It used ~1qt of oil every ~2k Mi. When it was 1qt low I'd pull the filter, put on a new filter and dump in 2 fresh qts. Every 10K I'd dump it all. Ran Mobil 1 and didn't ever have even a hint of engine trouble.
2003 F150 King Ranch, 259,000 trouble free miles when I sold it in 2014. Saw it for sale on Craigslist last week with 300,000.
My 08 Tundra with 130k miles on it was just totaled. I replaced it with a super clean 08 Tundra with 113k miles on it.

I don't know how anyone can handle that traffic. I am about to pull the trigger on a Tundra in a week or so.

Got a friend in Montana who bought an F250 new in '73 or '74,plain Jane,300 six, four speed manual.
He now has just over 900K on it and this is no BS,said he never did much to it but it is on it's third engine.
I'm going out there this summer and will see it,might try to buy it,be nice to have it!
Posted By: tzone Re: Highest miles on a truck - 04/28/17
Why in God's good name would you want to buy a truck with 900K on it? lol.
I had a 1988 Mack Superliner. When I bought it, it had 950K on it. When I sold it, it had 1.2 million miles on it and the engine had never been rebuilt.

That thing blew so much smoke, one time I had an angry motorist call me to complain. He said he couldn't see where he was going. I told him not to follow my truck so close. cool
At the dealership where I recently bought my new/old Tundra, they had an '07 Tundra on the lot with 430k on it.
1996 Toyota Tacoma with the 2.7 4 cyl. 87,500 miles

2003 Toyota Tundra with 4.7 8 cyl. 94,000 miles

Barely even broke in yet.
I was in the process of looking for a used car for my daughter recently and was amazed at the amount of miles people put on in a year's time. I've been spoiled I guess because for the majority of my adult life I've had a take home car from work, and even when I didn't, I never worked more than about 30 miles from home. My current commute is eight miles round trip. I've also worked a 4-10 schedule for the past 20 or so years that saved quite a bit on mileage over the years. I drive a '99 Suburban that we bought in either 2005 or 2006 with 47k miles on it and it's just getting ready to turn over 116K. We simply don't put a lot of miles on vehicles

53k on a 2005 Silverado with 500 miles on it when I took delivery. Two more years and it may have as many miles on it as the '88 Trek 360 sharing its garage space.

2007 Tacoma: sold it year before last with 248K miles. Buyer was very eager to get it.

2012 Tundra: just turned 150K coming back from south Texas this weekend. Probably should replace the OEM battery before the elk hunt in October.

Most miles I have ever seen on a vehicle was an 80's Peterbilt. A boss I had owned it. 3.8 Million miles. When it hit 3.8 he sent it off for a complete nut and bolt overhaul. Most heavy trucks are beer cans or sent to south america waaaaay before that. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes i would have never believed it The original odometer was in the truck and still worked.
Bought a new Land Cruiser in 2000 and put 245k miles on it... sold it 'cause I was scared about the mileage. Bought a new 2007 Land Cruiser and it has 246k on it now. I'm not scared to keep this one.
M 89 kenworth will hit its first million next week(knock wood).... I'm about 300 miles away....hope it don't blow up...

We put 30K+ per year on each of two vehicles. One of the perks of living in the middle of nowhere, a long way from kids and grandkids.

While living in Missouri, there was an old black guy and his son who would come by, as they picked up post construction
clean up garbage, and recycled it and took it to the dump. He was a real religious man as was his son.

They ran a 67 Chevy 1 1/2 ton flat bed they have built a box on, and a 68 Ford F 250 Flat Bed with the 300 Six in it.
The Chevy had a good old 327 in it.

Got both used, but they would love to talk about their vehicles when asked. Each had well over 500K on them,
on the original engines, which have never been overhauled. At the time they were 20 years old., as this was back in
1988 when I lived in Missouri for a year.

They fired the trucks up at 6 am every morning, and shut them down at 6 PM at night. Brooker felt turning them off
and on wore an engine out... so these trucks pretty much stayed on 12 hours a day.....

Every Saturday they got the oil changed with NAPA 30 wt, and a new NAPA Oil filter.

I use to joke to Brooker that his truck engines were long past worn out, he just never turned them off long enough for
the Truck to figure that fact out. The reward would be his Uncle Remus Laugh.... him and his son were two of the most
down to earth finest men you ever could meet.

But he'd tell ya, the secret is don't turn them off when there was work to be done.

There is ALOT to be said about regular oil changes. I worked for Southern Pacific Railroad years ago. My boss had two different trucks. Once an older Dodge 1/2 stepside with a 318 (1976?) and the other was a new 1984 Ford 3/4 4x4. Both had weekly oil changes. It was not uncommon for them to have been driven 600-800 miles per day or up to 4,000 miles per week... And same as Seafire reports. They had very very high miles on them. When they finally got ride of the Dodge, I think it had near 1 million documented miles on it. Yes, it needed new water pumps, and alternators etc... But, then engine was never rebuilt.

Jeff,

that reminds me of two service reps we had with a fortune 250 company I worked for out of MN back in the early 80s...

They were two brothers based out of Mankato MN... one's service area was west into South Dakota and the other one was east of Mankato and stretched into Wisconsin. Their Uncle owned the local Dodge/Plymouth Dealership in town, so they got a new truck every 3 years... always with an auto and the old Slant 6. Base model 1/2 ton. At the end of 3 years the trucks had 200K plus on them and were pretty rusted as they never undercoated them, figured they would be worn out anyway, and scrapped...

The funny things were their opinions on oil changes.

One brother religiously changed the oil every 3,000 mile and a new filter, running 10W30. Pennzoil no less.

The other brother, would religiously change the filter every 3000 miles, and just add oil as needed... Pennzoil once again.

Who knows if it was due to the bullet proof old Slant 6 or just blind luck...but both brothers had done that for going on 30 years at the time....and both engines always made it thru the 3years and 200K....

The one that never changed the oil was big on filters, changing his air filter every 3K also...yet changing the plugs and wires when they had little life left in them... the other brother was just anal retentive and did everything by the book religiously.

I think the brother big on filters and nothing else, was just lucky and also a true testament to that old MoPar Slant 6.
04 Dakota 4x4 4.7 V8 I make sure to keep it well maintained but also run it like I stole it every chance I get!

is at 312,000+

Coming back up thru California, stopped at a Truck Stop for fuel and ran into a guy who had an old VW Squareback in Great Shape on a Trailer and then a 1969 Z/28 on it also...so we talked about the two cars he was towing on the flat bed...

They weren't his.. he just tows things for a living... based out of Bend Oregon...

He was running an 02 Ford Diesel F 350 4 WD pickup with the diesel engine in it...

Showed me he had 910,000 miles on the odometer.. and claimed the diesel had never been rebuilt.

Also said, Ford and the Dealer there in Bend, told him when he hits a million miles on it,
if he trades it in for a new Diesel.. they'll just give him a new truck....

Don't know if that is true, but I did see an odometer with 910,000 miles on it...

guess an 0-2 would be the old 7.3 International Engine.

I've had three. Not a one made it past 377K miles. Injectors, blow by/oil consumption, low power. The Cummins is a better motor by a country mile.

Interesting sentiment, dennisinaz. I have 188K miles on my 2003 GMC and I like it more each day.

I think a new truck would be nothing but a disappointment for me.

The 06 Silverado that I purchased new had 237k on it when I traded it in last year. All with cheap gas, and regular maintenance. 3 front wheel bearings and two new front rotors were the only significant repairs. The 2011 version of the same that I traded it in on hasn’t been as trouble free as the last one, but it’s probably my fault, for being too gentle with it.

I've heard it suggested that Ford & Dodge sell new trucks without engines so diesel owners can just swap in their perfectly good motors. Don't count on it ever happening.

There was the one time going from Taos to the ABQ after a handful of 'shrooms washed down with no label mescal when I ran over a 10 foot tall spider with tentacles for legs. Those would probably qualify as my highest miles on a truck.
I seen a lime green elephant pulling a chainlink gate across the road, on his hind legs, on that same stretch. Musta been to keep that spider from wandering.....
Badger: I am hoping to someday see 1,000,000 miles on my 1996 Dodge Cummins Diesel - I have 126,000 (6,000 miles per year average) on it now so I have a LONG way to go.
Needless to say with the current price of pickup trucks I only bring my diesel VarmintMobile out on "special" occasions anymore!
I bought it new and folks often ask if I will sell it (as its the last of the VERY dependable and VERY good mileage 12 valve models) to them.
Anyway I would like to have a new truck but would NOT even consider paying the prices that they are asking for them.
Some time back I had a friend that drove his Dodge Diesel back and forth everyday from Miles City, Montana to Billings, Montana (and at Christmas season he made the trip twice a day!) packing U.S. mail and he had over 1,000,000 miles on his Dodge Cummins - he told me the only thing he had replaced were the tires!
His truck was an automatic and mine is the 5 speed manual transmission.
Back when I started buying 4x4 pickup trucks (1968) it was not unusual to have to rebuild a gas engine at 60,000 - 70,000 miles!
Times have changed.

My ‘14 gets used a little more than that. Clicked over 91k miles yesterday with it. Plan is to do 300k just like the last one and then re-evaluate. Company truck so there are some benefits to replacing it rather than keeping it forever. My ‘03 which I sold to a friend and Campfire member in Houston is still going well at 350k plus miles. I do miss that truck, it was a lot faster than this one is smile

Just bought a truck from a friend for my youngest son who is fixing to turn 16. It's a 2001 F150 4x4 with the 5.4. It's got 232,000 on it. In the last year, he had the front end rebuilt and the rear axles and bearings replaced. Had all of the electric window and door lock motors and switches replaced and the heater core and blower. Everything on the truck works perfectly and the engine runs nice and smooth. Tranny feels good. Kept it garaged its whole life. Hopefully it'll last him into (through) college.

It's extremely clean inside and out. Interior is spotless and nothing broken or missing. Son doesn't turn 16 till middle of December, so I've been driving it. I kinda want to keep it for myself, ha!

In the fall of 1999 I bought a first year production 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4. Drove it until September, 2009 and put 320 something thousand miles on it. It ran great when I traded it. I had to replace brakes and shocks twice each but that was all that ever needed replacement and it didn't burn a drop of oil or transmission fluid.
