Looking for experience hand loading this bullet. I have Norma cases, Fed 215M primers, H4831sc and RL 22 on hand. Where did you hit pressure? What starting load? Thanks

Might check the Barnes manual…

Thanks...I have some test loads ready to go using R22 and H4831sc. I have spoken to a Barnes tech advisor but was hoping for some real world experience from this group. I also have some Accurate 4350 that I will try. Also, I have noticed that Barnes has updated a lot of their data from their one and only manual that was published in 2008. Thanks for the reply.

Actually Number one was copyrighted in 1992. I'm looking at it right now. Yes the data is old but some of it is still relevant.
You are right Feather...mine is #4 but published way back in 2008.

Sorry if that sounded like a smart a$$ about manual #1. Did not mean it that way at all. My apologies.
I've been using Barnes "X" bullets for a long time. Still have a lot of 6mm and 30 caliber "X"'s .

I have a couple boxes of 139 LRX bullets that I purchased to load in one of my 7 Rem Mags, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’ve spoken with techs at Barnes before and their advice was pretty much spot on. My plan is to start with RL 26, and try to find an accuracy node between 3,100 - 3,200 fps. Going to use 140 TSX data since Barnes has indicated that it can also be used for the 139 LRX.
This week I loaded 3 shot groups working down from the Barnes maximum charge of H4831sc in increments of 1%. Barnes online data lists 69.1 grains as the max charge. So 67.7 and 68.4 gave 3039 and 3047 fps respectively, (basically the same velocity) but 69.1 gave me 3101 fps which matches the Barnes load data almost exactly (Barnes data calls for 3107). The 68.4 charge gave me a .426" group and the 69.1 measured .501". Pretty good accuracy. I still think I can get into the mid 3100s with accuracy. I plan to walk up in .5 grain increments. I have a 140 grain Nosler ballistic tip load that did not show pressure until 72.5 grains.
Sounds like you have a pretty firm grip on the load. Personally I'll take accuracy over velocity any day. Sounds like you have the accuracy aspect there.

Chasing 3,300+ fps can be done in the 140 Accubond loading RL22. The Nosler has a higher BC as well in that weight class. That’s if you desire a flatter shooting projectile with less WD out at 500+ yards.

Both are tough bullets with different methods for reliable expansion, especially at magnum velocities at long distance.

Based on your rifles performance I would guess the Accubond would meet, if not exceed your current accuracy. Only a thought.
Apples to oranges, but with the 145 LRX in 280AI, I was getting 3160s with RL26 and 3090s with RL23 and better accuracy. On game performance and accuracy has been fantastic.

I also developed a 145 LRX load for my 7mm RM with Reloder 23 and got results similar to Taco2fiddy7. I haven't used it on game yet, but my results on game with other LRX bullets have been very good.

have been working with 145 LR for a 280ai about 2950v and got it to shoot 1/2 moa using RL26, think this is big enough for a elk hunt?

Certainly
A good .284 bullet pushing 3000 FPS accurately is terrific medicine for elk. I killed several with 150’s around 3,000FPS in my 7mm RM. I’m a proponent of shooting until they are down on the ground & this load put them there pretty well - I typically put more than one shot through the lungs but I’m impatient & love elk burgers.

In the not too distant future I’ll go back to that & skip the recoil of my current 300 Weatherby pushing 180 TTSX over 3100. Not there yet but know it’s a matter of time.

It should work just fine.
