The leftover list is dwindling...

Any suggestions for late cow elk hunts in Colorado (just in case I'm unsuccessful during bow season cry )?

Cheap, easy, just to put some great protein in the freezer?

Thanks,

Unit 1. Not exactly late season, but pretty good odds and access. 27 isn't bad but the real winter range access isn't always great. 54 has a lot of elk, and is a better bet for a true late season hunt, but has a screwy boundary, but still enough public land. But I'd take the unit 1 hunt if you could swing one of the seasons.
Can't swing the regular season hunts in unit 1. Annual whitetail hunt (30+ yrs) with brothers is nov. 2-20. need a december or jan. late cow elk hunt.
unit 54 possible: EF54L1R 054 163 11/28/09 12/13/09 Special Restrictions See Brochure
know anything about the special restrictions?

also unit 27 might be doable this time frame: EF27L1R 027 114 11/21/09 11/29/09 what do you mean by "the real winter range access isn't always great"?

thanks! Mtn. Jim
I just mean that in 27 there's only one large piece of State Trut Lands that you can hunt, but it's still kind of high. If the snow pushes them below that area, you might be in trouble, but there are some BLM parcels below the STL. As for 54, it's just a special boundary, not the whole unit. Trying to remember off the top of my head, but I believe the boundary excludes the State Wildlife Area, but includes mostly BLM and some private. It says in the big game regs, something around Antelope Creek.
