I took a rifle over to my gunsmith to have the front sight raised. I couldn't help but see the mounts he had in his shop. These 2 are unique...They are the same bull.

It seems his 13 year old daughter shot the bull on the right and while they were dragging the elk to a better place to gut, his son found a shed not 50 feet from where the elk died.

After they got the bull and the shed home, the landowner where they were hunting said he had found the other shed. What are the chances of that. Look at how close to a perfect match they really are. This is a real rare pair. Also, notice the score...very nice indeed.

The second bull is his son's first elk, hunting in the same area a few years earlier. He was 12 when he got this nice elk. This is one of the best hunting pictures I have seen. His mount is in his room, not enough space to display them all in the shop!

I don't think I would pass up a shot at one like that!
That is awesome! I have seen bulls that big in person and i dont know what i would do if i was looking at one through my scope. I saw a massive 7x7 like the one in the first pic but he was on the side of the river where you cant hunt with his 300 cows or so. So there was no chance at him coming across.
Nothing like getting outdone by a 12 year old. Bet he was tickled, as he should be.
Nice! The buffalo is thinking "Even I wish I had those racks..." smile
Great for the kids! Those are badazz bulls!

Sounds like it mite be more of a private land "shoot" than a hunt... I know, I know, gonna get flamed... It was just my first thought..
I am actually surprised that the two racks are as similar to one another as they are. The UT DWR has a chonology of racks from a single bull; it is easy to see them become larger and more massive as the bull reached its prime, and then decline. No two years are as similar as the ones in the photo.

Very cool post, thanks.
Not much deduction on that old bruiser, great bull.
That 12 yr old is ruined for life!

Nice elk.

Awesome elk, but do you really think it prudent to plaster the young gal's information all over the www. like that?

I'm sure it was just an oversight, but might want to do some blacking out on that picture.
Shaweeeet! To scout, stalk, and kill a 350+ 6x6 is a dream hunt for me (still waiting to fulfill that one, and this guys' kids are whackin and stackin)

Kudos,

Wow What a coincidence! I know a gunsmith named Ben, and he told me the identical story about his son and his daughter! I believe the daughter shot the bull with a 260. Of course, the gunsmith I am talking about lives about an hour horth of Bozeman, and specializes in revolvers, so it couldn't be the same smith...

Thats awesome!!.....Thats an official score sheet....I recognize Fred King's writing...cool stuff right there.
