Sunrise greeted us and promised a beautiful day.
Spotted a small bunch of cows headed for a thick piece of river bottom near a friends ranch.
Made a big circle and eased into the river bottom to head them off.
We snuck into position and watched the elk settle into thick stand of timber and then start to bed. ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FENCE! Damn.
Told my buddy "Lets make a swing thru this bottom and see if we can't cut some other tracks."
We do and 200 yds later cut the tracks of 2 Mt. lions in the fresh snow.
Ranchers wife had some trail cam pics of one of the cats and was jacked up to get her 1st lion.
The rest of the story is fairly short.
A call was made and the dogs showed up an hour later.
1st cat treed in about 250 yes

Dalton was 1st up and scored on a beautiful tom.
We made a circle and cut the 2nd cats track re-released the hounds and caught the 2nd cat about 6 miles away after a good chase.[Linked Image]

Took awhile to get the rest of the crew to the tree and in the meantime Big Kitty was none to happy.

1st cat for both Mom and son AND there will be 100 more deer on the river next year. Enjoy and safe travels.
Good stuff, congrats to all.
Great post and pictures! Congratulations!
Awesome! I'd gladly change gears from an elk hunt to a cat hunt. Well done!
Very good! You are right about the deer too!
Right on. Pet them red bones fer me grin
congratulations.
Good hunting.

What State??

Lots of Mountain lions in Idaho, so wondered if those two cats were taken here.

Congrats all around.

Two cats traveling together or seperate?...what sex were they?
Nice story and those are some great pictures.

I'm West of thermop and we are loaded up with the dang varmints. Every deer hunt survey I fill out I mention the lions and that we are seeing them without dogs and in the daylight. I don't think it does any good.

You deserve a free deer and elk tag next year, Raven.
Thanks all and eyeball I'll take a deer tag in this area.
The cats weighed in at 90#'s for the tom and 125 isn for the other.
The "other" had wore out teeth and comparing it to a 12.5 yr old lion I killed
she was at least that old.
GW told me this was the 4th and 5th cat killed within a couple miles on this chunk
of river bottom.
Good job there for sure.
They taste better than elk too!
Awesome! Should be free deer & elk tags for that score!
Great pics, make a nice pair of rugs.
Awesome! I'd have switched gears as well!
Nice audible!
