Well Tuesday night honey do list wasn't very kind to me, I waited 9 years to draw an elk tag and I have to turn it in real quickly so I can get my points back to hopefully use for next year. Anyway I fell about 15 feet from a ladder replacing a window screen on a second story window. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Just arrived via ambulance at local ER waiting on X-rays.

X-rays, I'm no Dr but even I can read these!

One more ambulance ride, and a quick surgery my leg is now in traction. Swelling has to go down before they can try to put my leg back together. Looks like I'll be out of work at least 6 months.

DAMN!

That sucks!

Next time, hire a Mexican or tell her the damned Honey Do list has to wait until after elk season.
That hurts just looking at it.

Wow!! Hope you get your points ok, and heal quickly.. Best wishes...
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a good draw next year!
Ouch
Had the same thing happen the only time I drew a Montana Bighorn tag!

Except my calcaneous shattered ( heel bone) into 21 pieces, some of which came out the sides, and screwed up everything inside the ankle to boot...

I wont tell you how long or what the recovery was like, or the subsequent surgeries....

Dude, I feel your pain! eek
Wish you a quick recovery and good chance next year. Hate to see that.
Wow!

I know the foot must hurt.
But elk season? Your karma just has to be paid in full now.

Speedy recovery!
That xray is ghastly!
Very sorry to hear of that untimely misfortune.
Hope you eventually get that hunt.

I just had a stingray puncture my foot with his stinger.
I'm limping now but I hope to be mobile enough by the start of 2nd season.
Sorry to hear it. That really sucks. The best I can offer is a suggestion that there are lots of good hunting games for sale.Yeah, I know. Not exactly the same.

Damn!!!! I can't handle broken bones well!!! I'm sorry for you! Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Dang...bummer. I'd count yourself lucky if that's your only damage. I've known a few fall from roughly that same height that wish they only had a broken leg.

Speedy recovery to you!
Sorry to see this. i hope you have a speedy recovery.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. There is a small consolation in the fact that many people die or are paralyzed by a fall like that. Someone was watching out for you.
taylor,

That looks really bad and I'm sure it hurt like an SOB. I've been doing alot of high ladder work myself lately (more like 30ft instead of 15ft) and have been having the same thoughts about injuring myself right before hunting season. Hope you heal up well. Just remember that it is only one hunting season and as long as you can get fixed up there will be many more to come. Best of luck to you.

Here's my wish for a successful and speedy recovery.

Take care and if broken bones like that are anything at all like knee and shoulder surgery.... Be Sure To Do ALL the Physical Therapy they give you. ALL of it.

Good luck,

Geno
dayum!

Focus on getting yourself healed.
There will be more hunting seasons.
One has to be careful before hunting season........ Hope it heals well, them xrays look a mess, prayers for a complete recovery!!1!!
Thanks for the well wishes and prayers, I'll take all I can get. Prognosis isn't great at this time, but hopefully I'll get most of my mobility back, but running marathons or even a mile is probably not in my future. To prevent arthritis and long term chronic pain they need to fuse my ankle, while still days away from that decision that appears to be my best option.
You could have done that 3 months ago and your season would be over!

Good luck on the healing process. That looks nasty.
Oh hell, don't let a little thing like that stop you from elk hunting. laugh

Speedy recovery. Glad it wasn't your neck!
Sorry to hear that. I about hurt myself twice two weeks ago trying to get everything ready for when I leave for CO.

I start the 24 hr drive tomorrow, and will do so with further appreciation that I am healthy enough to go. Good luck getting a replacement tag and/or points back.

Good luck and kill a good one!

I have pre-op on Monday and surgery on Thursday, I will keep everyone posted.

Thank you all!
Look on the bright side - it's your leg, not a crushed skull.

Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you have as speedy a recovery as is possible.
And you ruined your pants, too!

Got some new hardware to wear for the next 6-12 weeks. Say hello to roboleg!

That's hard core. Glad you got it over with. Heal well man.
Had the hardware removed on Thursday, and was released from hospital on Saturday afternoon. During surgery the Dr's found I had a nerve running between one of the breaks and it was probably the main cause of the majority of the pain is was feeling these last few weeks. They were able to maneuver the nerve out from between the bones without any further damage to it.

Dr's told my wife that the nerve had sustained some damage but would heal up in 2-3 weeks. However if we had waited another week for surgery the bone probably would have closed up around it. Already the pain is a lot more manageable than before, and there are a lot fewer muscel spasms. Though the did harvest some bone graft and marrow from my right femur as well, so now my whole leg hurts, not just the lower portion.
Damn just Damn !
And thought my Heart Attack was bad that ended my
season this year!

Damn.....horses and ladders. I dont like either.

Glad to hear youre on the mend.
I have a new picture of the hardware, it'll be tough at airport security!

I'm amazed the amount of injuries and illness that ended several people's hunting seasons too soon. Hopefully y'all are on the mend and ready for next year.
Damn bud! Get well soon and let's go shoot some yotes

Man I'd love too, though don't know if I'm up to sitting in the cold yet. My daughter's dying to kill a few though.
Get a "mobility impaired" permit and we can drive around, drink coffee and you can shoot em from the truck 😀

I've seriously considered it!
Did you got your points back and a refund?
So, what of your points and a refund?
It's one or the other, not both. Most residents would take the points back if they used any in the license. He had time to get a refund of either, but whether he had someone do it or not, couldn't tell you, just that technically he could have.
He received his points back the day after I visited him in the hospital if my memory serves me correct
That X-ray is just horrific. I'd say NEXT year's elk hunting is in question. frown

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. And airport metal detectors will be more complicated to get through, I would think.

I hate ladders. I just built a house and first thing I did was buy 3 really good ladders. I still hate them. Between R&R'ing the old construction and building the new, It took about 6 weeks of "roof time" before I was done with things up there. By the end I'd kinda lost my nerve. I was so damn glad to get off that roof in one piece.
