I had the pleasure to be in on a few elk stalks this year. Our crew had a very successful 3rd season in a unit that is not known for large elk populations.

The most interesting part is all the bulls were taken with a Nosler offering: Accubond, Partition and Ballistic Tip.

30-06 180 grain Accubond 186 yards

30-06 180 grain Partition 250 yards

Nice work with great bullets.. Some nice elk too..
Congrats to you all.

Lucky bastids and I mean that in a good way. smile
Great season! Congrats all around.
I'm coming over for some tenderloin! Good work boys.
Well done!!!!!
Well done. Out of curiosity, and I am not asking for unit or area, were you on an otc tag?
Draw unit, DIY, public land
I'd be interested to hear your comparisons of how the bullets performed.

I've killed critters with all three, but still interested.

10-4. Nice to see guys making it happen DIY PL. Success is that much sweeter.
I missed out on hanging with ol'goofy and the gang this year. I do know from talking to Ted one bullet was recovered from the top elk and it weighed 110 grains. He also used two bullets to put his down.

I don't know the full details on the other two yet as they were shot the last couple of days of 3rd season and I haven't got to talk but 30 minutes before physical therapy yesterday to goofy, and it was mainly about him taking my daughter deer hunting.
More bullet reports .....

Accubond retained weight of 110 grains = 61.1%

Partition retained weight of 112.5 grains with a 30 grain lead core separation = 62.5% or 79.2% dependent upon how you look at it.

Ballistic tip retained weight of 106.9 grains = 59.4%
Nice bulls you got there!
Looks great. A job well done.
Nice bulls - congrats!
Nicely done on the bull elk.
Can you share your load data? I'm always interested to see how my 180 Partition load compares.

I use 59 grains of Hunter over a WLRM for 2775 fps MV.

P
Pharmseller,

I put these loads together back in July 2000. That load consists of 71 gr IMR-4350 with a CCI 250 primer using the 180 BT.

My gunsmith recommends any of the 4350 powders at 72 grains and a 180 gr bullet in the 300 WM for about 3100 fps. He says if you can't find a bullet that shoots with the above recommendations, then we need to work on the rifle.

So, my old loads aren't that far off from that recommendation.

I'll see what my buddy is loading for the PT and the '06.
My buddy says his Partition load is the following:

30-06
56 gr IMR-4350
WW case
WW primer
Ave. speed 2734 fps

Hope that helps.
Looks a pretty good fall. Good to see Nosler didn't let you down.

Thanks, same ballpark for MV.

Excellent work on the Bulls; interesting that the NBT at 300 WM speeds retained about the same weight as the NPT @ 30-06 speeds...
