I have room for my gear in my current pack but no rifle hauler yet
add a Kifaru gunbearer......
^^^This.

I have the Kifaru Spikecamp and a Gunbearer. I love the thing for carrying my rifle. I doubt I'll ever go back to using a shoulder sling. It sure is nice to have both hands free. If you add it to your existing pack, make sure to buy the universal one.
Eberlestock makes several packs with integrated scabbards but my favorite as a daypack is the X2 with an add on scabbard. It is small enough to not get in the way but will haul all that you mention and an elk quarter if needed. For about $200 it is a lot of pack for not too much money.
The Kifaru gun bearer is that underarm contraption with the muzzel pointing forward is it not?

If so.....looked it over and I'm not interested in that one

Rear carry and out of the way for hard climbing and 100% out of the way binocular use

Don't count out the Gunbearer until you've run one... Of course I've never climbed hard or glassed through binos so that's all a guess.

I'd listen to the cat from Colorado....

Is that system easy enough to use while wearing gloves? while you're not climbing hard or glassing that is. wink

Ted, I really didn't care for the gunbearer either. Until I fiddled around with it. You can adjust it to run the gun kinda cross-chest under the sternum strap. Just as fast to deploy as the way Patrick designed it, and a whole lot better, to me......

No issues while using gloves whatsoever (for me). Mine is set up to carry very similar to what huntsman posted.

I've used a homemade version of the Gunbearer but didn't like it much. It worked ok but I don't like the barrel pointing at whoever is ahead of me.
I had much better luck with Slingsavers.
If the muzzle is pointing at people in front of you, then it's not adjusted correctly. At least with a gunbearer.
Huntsman

If it can be adjusted then I might try it even though it appears to have your binocular all jacked up

No way in hell do I want it under my arm rubbing all day
Jacked up? Those b'nocs ride without wiggle-waggle or bounce, right there...... perfection......

I too like the gunbearer. I use the rifle barrel to steady the binos when I'm glassing freehand. Only gripe with the GB is that you have to unbuckle the top part to sit down.
Thanks Tanner,

You too "hunts".

Pics were a big help.

Guess I have another option for the Christmas present my wife is gonna buy me! This or perhaps that wool "pendleton" shirt I asked for.

Me too.
Kifaru Mountain Rambler!
Gun Bearer in steep and deep. Been on all 4's grabbing moss, brush roots hoping I didn't tip over backwards and there isn't anywhere I'd rather have my rifle than in a gun bearer.
On stand up ground hunting a slingsaver is faster to shoulder a shot. I carry my rifle in a Gun Bearer scope forward. Someone commented once that if You do that the bolt digs into your side. Laffin. Obviously they never "actually" tried it.
The standard Kifaru carry and I've accidentally opened bolts. Scope forward was a no brainer the day the Gun Bearer arrived in the mail.

The perfect combo is a Gun Bearer and a Slingsaver. Neither effect the other and they both out perform each other in different situation. Great combo..

Eberlestock? They suck.....
Ted,
I have several daypacks that have been used in the past for bow hunting Whitetail and Elk to glassing and hunting Mule Deer. Not that any of that makes me an expert but I thought I would share with you what I have used.
The Crooked Horn stuff is adequate and the Master Guide Daypack is made well and functions well. Plenty of room for the gear needed for any day hunt. Compartments and access fairly convenient and hangs well and is comfortable. In a jam it will stand a boned and trimmed Whitetail with cape and horns in one trip too. (Not recommended)
I just picked up an H2 Gunrunner by Eberlestock. I really like it after using it in Alberta this year and Whitetail hunting here at home. It is only 1400 cu.in. but it has plenty of molle's on it to add there saddlebags and small and large pouches which add to the capacity. Plenty of lash points. Only weighs 3# 8oz plus any accessory bags.
Feels good and has a gun scabbard built in that can be used to for a spotter and tripod when in the field and your carrying your rifle. Rides well and is comfortable. I load everything in it and when the opportunity to head out for a hunt comes I can throw some camo on and grab the pack (gun already in the scabbard) and I have everything I need. 2.0Ltr Hydration compartment too.
Both the Crooked Horn and the Eberlestock provide good shooting platforms either on the ground prone of sitting with the pack in your lap and I am pretty sure you can have either pack for $179 or less plus any accessories you might add.
BTW the Gun Bearer shown and touted in other posts looks real handy. I have some of Patrick's gear too. Great stuff and am going to put a gun bearer on my Christmas list.
Tanner sure would like to have you around if a guy was hauling a Wapiti out.

Dave
I don't know Tanner

Reading his post in the past year or so I doubt he needs any help from me

The Gunslinger is another option that works good for me. It gives you several carry options.
I love my current day pack and will add a rifle holder to it

I am currently making a "better" version of the sling saver that I may try to sell in low quantity

It is made minimal and light from 420 Stainless steel bead blasted matt

In testing it has worked flawlessly
