I drew a Colorado Ranching for Wildlife Blue Sage Cow tag and an area 3 Pronghorn Buck tag. I will use the 257 Wby for the Pronghorn and a 264 Win. Mag for the Cow. Happy Days are here again.
Congrats big man! Pulled a 3rd season deer tag and am getting an OTC archery elk tag.

Good luck!
Point for Elk/Deer.

Drew 4th season bull tag which enables me to still get an OTC antlerless archery tag!
1st season cow tag and 3rd season mule deer tag
Area 33 cow tag
1st rifle EE for me...yehaw
Only 1 of our group of 4 drew for deer in area 301. Pretty disappointed.
Rebelman, Area 3 is where all the big bucks hang out. If that would have been your area of choice, I would have directed you to them. That is where my wife and I always apply for as first choice.
Three Forks RFW cow tag, deer & antelope points.
Unit 61 Rifle for me. About time I get rid of those 19 points.
Nice tag, good luck! I'll be hunting bears there in September, I love that country.
BigFin,

Congrats on unit 61, first rifle elk?

On drew a unit 41 muzzleloader cow tag and a unit 3 pronghorn buck.
Smokepole, hunting a bear in 61?

I drawed a point.. 5 now, likely use'em b4 I get to 19 frown Especially considering I'd be in my 70's then.

Not first rifle, the schedule only allowed for 3rd rifle. Last year it would have been a slam dunk with 17 points. This year, I barely got in with 19 points. I had considered archery and muzzy, but I would have been one and two points short this year, so maybe it is good that other states have me occupied during September/October.

Our Raghorn Express will be headed to the Uncompahgre, come November.

Looks like I'll be hunting with a OTC bull tag and a second choice Unit 12/23/24 cow tag this year. Got a pref point first choice so now have 2 for elk.

Got a pref point for deer instead of a tag so now 2 for deer as well.

Haven't checked with them but expect the other three hunters in my group this year (Daughter #1 and two sons-in-law) also got their first choice pref point for elk and second choice cow tag for Unit 12/23/24.
You will enjoy Third season. I hunted second season two years ago and shot a nice bull. It's not too far from where I live.

Yep, nice photo, I saw a couple bruisers up there when I hunted it a few years ago.

Any and all tips are welcomed. What elevation were you seeing them at in October?
First rifle hunt in 23--either sex. Good time to be in the mountains of Colorado!
Had a 10/12 chance for rifle deer with 3 points. I was one of the 2.....

Congrats to those who drew.
We got the shaft for 7/8. Can't believe it...they always had leftovers before. WTH?

Now I have to find a plan B.
4th GMU62 EE for me.
Smokepole,

I would look in the oakbrush and creek bottoms around 7500-8000'
It kind of depends on how much frost they have had, I think they'll be close to green stuff or leftover acorns.
Leftover acorns.....it's what's for dinner.

I was poking around the CPW website for bear data in 61 last year and found a map of the bear harvests.
The kill locations were widely distributed. It was hard to get too far from a place where a bear had not been taken.
I recall there were a couple of pockets in the SW part of the unit where there was thicker concentrations of bear kills.
Drew nothing again.
Thanks Al, I didn't know they posted that kind of data for bears.
25 non resident preference points to draw unit 2 first rifle...point creep sucks !
Drew my 1st rifle is a week later this year, and a full moon. Might be more challenging.
I have been doing the same thing for about 10 years now. Drew a cow tag first rifle 23/24 and bought an OTC either sex archery tag for 421.

Two elk tags for $100 isn't a bad deal, I don't see how you foreigners do it for $400 to $600 but there seems to be a lot of you up there in October. 😀
I drew a 25 archery non-resident mule deer tag, but may return it as I don't think that is the area we will be hunting OTC archery elk in now. First trip out.

And to think......I used to draw GMU 61 with 1-2 PP's for rifle, and 0-1 PP's for archery..........

101,
Was that a 1st choice?

Casey
Yes it was first choice. I had 0 pp.
2nd Rifle OTC Bull for me.... GMU44 Muley tag for my buddy!
Got my refund check today, got 12 points now...
I live in 7/8. I have elk and deer that I could literally jump on their backs from my deck. No tags for 2 years.

El Sucko

Lefty
I drew a antelope tag in #142. Pinion canyon maneuver site.

Tony.
My buddy and I drew Unit 54 Cow tags. It'll be our first time elk hunting too. Heard it's rough country but we're looking forward to heading into West Elk Wilderness area, maybe up the West Elk Creek Gorge. Any tips would be much appreciated.
FYI – CO is having issues getting their tags out. I got drawn for a cow tag (1st choice) and received a refund check for my second choice (bull) but no tag. I confirmed my drawn result online and finally called yesterday. The girl at DNR confirmed they were having some tag processing issues and my tag should be received by the end of the month – something to do with lost mail claims and reissue of lost license ????

Just FYI for those anxiously checking their post boxes like I have been.
Come to think of it, I received my Pronghorn tag but not my Cow Elk tag. I must call Monday. Thanks for the heads up.
I was told they were having a problem with the licence vendor in Tennessee and not to panic yet.
In case my initial post wasn't clear. It was explained most elk tags were delayed and not to call until the end of the month if I still hadn't received mine. The DNR gal said they had been receiving LOTS of calls. It would have been prudent for CO post something on their website or sent notice to hunters to avoid confusion.
Got my tag yesterday, but my hunting partner did not get his yet. A friend of mine if NC did not get his as of this morning.
Haven't seen my elk license, either. I thought that I would give them another week or so before calling or emailing, but it looks like they are working on it.
Colorado mailed me my Elk tag....

AND the either sex muzzy tag for a total stranger!!! Trying to call him now-- still no answer!!
Received my elk tag yesterday.
Got my refund last week. The first time in my life I haven't had a 61 or 62 third rifle tag. Can't say I'm very disappointed. Both areas have been really rough hunting for the last three or four years.
Still waiting on my archery elk tag to arrive. Am I in the minority here?
I received my deer refund then my pronghorn license and about 2 weeks later my elk refund

Looks like an otc license in one of the orange units if I plan on making an elk trip this year

You and me both, I guess....
Got my EE 1st rifle today...
Mine showed up today, too. I guess good things come to all who wait (to coin a phrase. wink )
3rd Rifle cow tag came in the mail today. No surprise but glad to see it.
My ranching for wildlife cow elk tag came today. Pronghorn came three weeks ago.
