Has anyone hunted the fourth season? My partner got hurt and we had to cancel our hunt for this week. But his doctor has told him that he can go after November 12th. The fourth season starts on the 16th but I have always heard there is too much snow to hunt high. I am thinking about GMU 12 around 8,500 feet. I was looking at the long term weather forecast and it shows above normal temps through the end of the month. Any relevant comments would be appreciated.
Sure, plenty of times, very erratic weather of course. Best "value" in elk licenses with the leftovers if you're prepared to be flexible. Did you realize that the licenses are limited and is there one left for unit 12?

Im hunting 4th season and hoping for heavy snow. Heavy snow will put them in my backyard. I think that is unlikely this year though. Western Colorado is very dry and it doesn't look like the weather pattern is changing.

There are both Cow and Bull licenses left as of Today. The weather is what concerns me. The Outfitter up there said she tries to pull out by the last day of the Third season. However, I think this year may be the exception to the weather. Thanks.

I'm also hoping for snow, just not real heavy. Ha. If we can get around a foot it will move the elk off the higher mountains. But as you said, it does not look like it this year.

Isn't the fourth season "draw only" for the whole state except for leftovers?

Yes. However, there are several areas with leftover licenses available. They are going fast though. All the bull and 30 Cow licenses were sold this weekend in the area I wanted to hunt. I went to the licensing site and they would have sold the license to me. They have 134 as of 5 this evening.
We hunt CO 4th season every year. We've had everything from cold and snow with the animals low to warm and dry with the animals high. Be flexible.

Thanks. It looks like a warm year but it is still early.
