I have a 24" barreled FN SPR in 300 WSM, and need to decide on the furnature.

Opinions from the competition side of the house?
I don't have an A3, but I do shoot the HTG and A2. Like them both.

I like the handling/carrying characteristics of the HTG over the A2, due to the more slender shape, and shape of the pistol grip. More comfortable two-handed carry, and faster to the shoulder. The comb is a tad low, but I do not find that a hinderance except in the prone/bipod, but keeping glass low, and adding a stock pack solves that.

The A2 with it's high comb, and near vertical grip, is super comfy/ergonomic to shoot, but a little less comfortable to carry.

For traipsin' around, I prefer the HTG, but the choice is very subjective.

If the long range hunting includes a lot of movement on foot, HTG would be my pick. If it is mostly hunting from static positions, and motorized movement, I'd opt the A3.

Some visual comparison. Granted, the A3 will be a tad shallower in the forend than the A2.

I shoot both and my overall favorite is the A3. Works well off of my pack and carries well with a smaller forend depth and width[?] than the A2 in the other pics. The vert. grip is more comfortable[less tiring] in long prone strings or waits. If the M40/HTG had a little higher cheek I would call a draw.I believe McM can do an adj.cheekpiece on the HTG.

Can't really go wrong with either!
I posted a pic of my orig M40 setup over on a thread in the custom rifle forum.

thanks!
You might also be interested in the A1-3. It's essentially an HTG grip/butt, with higher comb, and an A3 forend with finger grooves on the sides.
