Looking at getting a Les Baer .264 LBC upper. They run almost $1500. Looking for superb accuracy. Are there other options in the Grendel that shoot well without laying out that much cash?
Satern Barrels are supposed to be superb, never used one myself. I would consider the 243LBC, that's what I'm looking at. Large enough for deer and quite a bit faster. Blackhole barrels is doing them. RCBS is making the dies.
.243 lbc??? Wouldnt that be a 6ppc?

IMHO, I"d find a smith that could do your custom upper with a top line barrel like a Krieger or Rock or such...

I don't see that it would cost 1500 either and it would shoot lights out... I'd say you should max out at 1200 just depending and possibly less....

LBC is paying for a name and thats about it.
Blackhole is doing LBC barrels and Midway has the RCBS dies for $60-70, IIRC. That's the route I'm going.

Actually the 243 LBC can be loaded with $20 6ppc dies.

I think Satern Machine is switching over from Grendel to .264LBC for thier custom barrels.

Both 6 or 6.5 LBC will give about 1K at 400 yds w/Amax's....very deadly on deer though the nod I believe would be with the 123 6.5 due to more mass. Up close the 6 so you need to go for soft targets on close shots on game if one is hunting with the 105.

Both surely will do admirably but having factory brass/ammo and proper dies and headstamp w/Saami spec is hard to ignore the 6.5. Having used many 6BRs, no doubt if you get that performance in a 6 LBC, it's very capable of alot of chores in good hands wink

Does anyone have experience with the 264 lbc from Black Hole Weaponry?

Any reason I should pay 2x more for a Saturn?
Only read stuff on the net. Be brave and pave the way for us. I'm going 243LBC if I get an upper other than 223. The Grendel is too slow for my tastes.

Done. I have read great things about Saturn, but I've read good things about BHW. I'm not sure the difference between great and good is worth hundreds..

I'll have to contact BHW to make sure a bolt comes with their barrel.. but assuming it does. I'm 97% sure I'll be purchasing their set up.

I'm months from having something complete, but I'll update.

I bolted together my own 264 lbc using a Baer barrel and bolt group and a noveske upper. It came in a good bit less than $1500. I really like Baer barrels and have had superb results with them but I don't think it's worth another $500 for them to bolt it together for you.

The next AR I'll build will probably be another 264 lbc with a Baer barrel and bolt group on a less expensive but high quality upper/lower........dj

the 6mm is fine on hard targets if you run the 85 tsx that will shoot through about anything literally.

The 6.5 Grendel is plenty fast, and accurate out to 600 easily that I've shot it, I wouldn't want to be a deer anyway... as such the LBC is fine too.

But if you want more speed you have to drop diameter as mentioned.

Speed is not a ticket for me but it is for some. I"ll take it, but its certainly not the end all.

I haven't done the link check on the 243 lbc, but sure would seem its a minor messed with 6ppc and thats been done by custom AR smiths for more years than I can remember.

final note, if Baer is what you want to spend on you'll get an accurate upper/gun, but you are paying a couple hundred at least just to have his name on it and thats always aggravated me for smiths like that, but they make their living too.
I have no direct experience Les Baer, so I have removed the comments I made.
Well here are the results:

Les Baer Super Match
Geissle Trigger
.264 LBC
24" Barrel
Magpul XTM Rail Panels
Versapod
Magpul PRS Stock
Magpul Precision Rail Monopod
Larue LT112 20MOA Mount
Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MOA

Factory Hornady 123 AMax load consistently under 1/2". Handload with 123 Scenar hovers around .250". I have not gotten a blue patch yet when cleaning, this barrel does not copper foul. I've had many match grade barrels by Lilja, Shilen, etc, but this is the first that hasn't copper fouled at all. Lead time was stated as 8-12 weeks for delivery, I had it in 4. Can't say enough about Les Baer.
This is a 264LBC with the BHW 3 groove barrel and i cant say enough good about it. it shoots and is one of the most easist barrel's to clean without hardly any cooper...

Good info. BHW is the company I have favorited for my build.

Does anybody have any experience with the Dtech barrels? they offer a .264LBC as well..

Rost, I agree. Nothing wrong with a good 6mm, I love 'em, but I really like the 6.5s and see the LBC as underated. Speed can = less clicks, not always.

There is a reason many choose a 45 over a 9 for battle.

Just purchased the .264/6.5 Barrel (BHW). So I should have a working upper in 8 weeks?? smirk Hopefully that estimate is exaggerated..
I just ordered in a 243 LBC barrel from BHW....we shall see also. Will post info when it arrives
