I just couldn't help myself. Placed an order yesterday for a WOA upper to go on an RRA lower.

- Varmint upper
- 18" barrel
- 1-7" twist
- Full length fluted for some weight savings
- Coated matte black

Planning to use this rifle as a bit of an all arounder. Have a 2-7x33 Redfield that will be mounted on arrival. Calling 'yotes, plinking, informal target shooting, etc. Hoping this will make a nice setup.

Estimated lead time is around 8 weeks so I'm marking the end of Feb on my calendar with anticipation smile
One of the best smiths out there for sure.
You will love it.....a year ago I ordered nearly the exact same setup. I was really worried about the weight of the varmint barrel but Paul and Jon convinced me the full length fluting would make the gun feel like a sporter barrel while retaining the benefits of a larger barrel. The gun balances and points nicely. Shoots nice little groups also.
That's GREAT to hear because the weight was my one real concern. Thanks.
you are going to be really happy when you start shooting little tiny groups with just about any combo. Mine like Benchmark and H322 with Berger or Hornady bullets!
I nearly did the same today. I was planning on a 20", but can't decide what twist. They offer 1:7 and 1:12 on that upper. The only bullets I've ever shot from my bolt gun 223 is 50's and 55's. Is 1:7 too much for that? Will I shoot heavier bullets and never care for the lighter ones again? Primary use is predator calling and backyard gong banging at 200 yards or so.
You won't regret the 7 twist. Get it!!!
It will shoot the 50s and 55s fine too. My 1'in 7 shoots 55 vmax and 75 amax into the same tiny little groups.
Never buy a 12 again if you have a choice.
I have been having the same thoughts lately except I want the 1 in 7 twist 223.

I just can't decide if I will use it or not.

Cheesy - mine is a 20" with a 1 in 12 twist. It was built for a specific purpose and the 50 grain Vmax is the only bullet it has shot. I understand the benefits of the faster twist if you want it but my goal was to maximize speed with the 20" barrel. I love it. I have a couple other guns to shoot distance with so I picked the 12 twist. No regrets.
You ordered the best and you will love it. Try the Hornady 60 gr V-Max with 26 grs of Varget and Rem 7.5 BR and Winchester Brass . Tack driving load in every AR I have tried it in.
Like Chap, I ordered the 1-12" from WOA for my varmint build. I had a 40 gr V-Max load that shot great in other .223's, and I wanted to use the same in the new build. Absolutely no regrets!
Thanks for that load - I happen to have all of that other than the bullets sitting around so it should be an easy one to try. Sounds like a good Jan / Feb project in preparation for the new upper smile
