I'm looking at a barrel for my build that comes with a "wylde chamber. I have one of these on my RRA and I've had good luck with it. I found a 16" light weight profile I think I'll like but I'm new to this. If I use a barrel with this chamber for my build, do I need a special go/no-go gauge for for head spacing the barrel? I'm truly clueless on this.
No.
no, just a field gauge will do
I wouldn't even bother with a gauge if the barrel is from a halfway respectable maker. Slap any bolt in the carrier and go shooting.
Thanks all. The reason I ask is Midway sells one marketed as a "wylde" no go gauge. probably just marketing to dummies like me. smile

Barry - does that statement hold true if you buy the upper and barrel from different sources? I bought a LH STAG upper, and I'm looking at a light weight barrel from here.
Yeah. The barrel is going to come with the barrel extension installed and set to standard headspace. The upper won't affect that.

The bolt you use won't make any difference worth mentioning. One time I measured 5 or so of them from different manufacturers. There wasn't even 15 ten thousandths difference between the longest and the shortest headspace.
