anyone know of any quality companies who may be having sales or where one can find used stuff, reasonably priced? Looking to build a flattop, adjustable stock for plinking or the occassional recreational prairie dog or coyote hunting.
Delton for parts, Montana barrel if you want a shooter barrel.

It's just my pref but I'll always spend the money for a Troy extreme rail for any gun I build in the future. If money is really tight and a free floated barrel isn't important to you get the Magpull MOE handguard.
Or just buy a S&W M&P for around $700 and go play.
Thanks..whre are you seeing MP's for around $700?

So the sporter lacks dust cover and forward assist, is that all? Am I missing something?
Thats it. Depending on your intended use youll never miss either of them.

The M&P is a good gun (speaking from actual use) and why take the time and money to build when you can buy a new M&P for that price?

If you feel you HAVE to have a dust cover and forward assist I believe you can find them on GB for a little more cash.

**Before I get flamed for stance on dust cover or the assist...save it please. I use ARs for hunting AND work (duty). The dustcover is nice for hunting, but not needed. The assist? Never had to use it and have purposely made as many jams as I could possibly come up with.
Buy a stripped lower for $80-100 & a Del-Ton kit for $470. Easy !!! http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Rifle_Kits_16_s/57.htm
Hows the Del-Ton quality? I am cautious not to make the quality vs cost comparison mistake..
Talked with factory rep before I bought. He said all parts are made in USA. (Important to me) Had mine couple yrs now with no problems. Same for 4 others I know with Del-Tons.
Excellent, Made in the US is important to me as well and their prices are inline with what I can afford to spend right now. Thanks for the info!
Del-Ton is Good to Go.

I like these guys. I built a mid-length from them earlier this year, and it has been excellent.

Lowest cost "mil-spec" type rifle that I have found. 1-7, chrome lined, HP tested and MP inspected, M4 ramps, staked gas key, all that stuff. Also USA made parts.

Choices are a good thing.
There are several places for $599 or less on the net ready to shoot out the door.

Here is one...

I didn't see it was in store only but there out there if you look hard enough.I had my local gun shop order one and my cost was something like $604...

liberty firearms in richmond va. has been sellin delton complete 16in uppers for 329.00 and cmmg complete lowers with 6pos stocks for 229.00. thats a cheap gun but change to the poly plumcrazy lower for 127.00 and you really have a cheap shooter.
Im sure this topic has been debated prior but...Are the Plum crazy lowers any good?
i've shot a few thousand rounds thru one with no problems . only thing you have to be carful when pulling the poly pins in the lower. you can punch them all the way out of the lower very easily. once you know how to do that,i see no differents. the triggers in the plumcrazy is actually way better then most single stage triggers.

i'm going to a gunshow this weekend and may pick up another plumcrazy lower for a new project.
