Gonna get it all screwed together over the next few days. Rail will be here tomorrow.

[Linked Image]

It turned out to be quite the BCM build, not intentionally though, they just happened to have most everything in stock at once.

BCM 18" rifle gas barrel
BCM LP gas block and tube and upper receiver parts
Gunfighter CH (medium)
Aero Precision stripped upper

I'll post up some pics when it's done.

I need to learn how to do that. Then again maybe not--already poor as a church mouse. eek

Looks like a winner.

Cool! I have the other end built and am waiting on parts.

I've got a lower waiting on it, should be able to wring it out Monday and I've got two competitions to shoot this month so we'll see how it goes. I may end up shooting it tomorrow without the rail just to see how it feels, I might not be able to help myself.

What's the twist and how much was the barrel? What rail R U using?
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
It's a 1-8", cost $309.

I ordered a 15" Troy Alpha. Clark98ut had me nearly talked into trying the new Noveske rail but I found the Alpha on sale and in stock and I've already got the QD sling mounts and such for it, so... Plus, I was needing something pretty quick for a training day Monday and a match next weekend.

Sounds slick - I need a quality barrel to complete a build. What load/gr bullet?
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
All I've got to use right now (the only good ammo) is Black Hills 75 grain stuff. I'll also try some Remington 62 grain and Winchester / Federal 55 grain stuff.

I'll let ya know how this one does.
Posted By: clark98ut Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
Nice parts! I had an 18" WOA SPR barrel and it was a winner. Should be an easy shooting rig.
Posted By: TWR Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
I like my 18" SPR, it's as heavy as I want to go and is a shooter with a 3.5-10 MK4 stuck on it. I've thought about changing the JP VTAC tube out for a Troy Alpha to match my others and shave some weight.

Interested in how the BCM shoots and what it weighs all rigged up. Mines a little over 9 lbs ready to roll.
Posted By: clark98ut Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
I'm wanting to build an 18 or 20" rig and would like to have a slightly lighter contour than the SPR without going full lightweight. I might have to bite the bullet and pay for another custom contour from BHW.
Posted By: TWR Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
Noveske 18" light weight, 6 oz lighter than their SPR. I have a 16" and it shoots well, actually had another one and it shot well too.
Posted By: clark98ut Re: Pieces - 05/31/13
That looks like a winner! I just might have to grab one of those...

Thanks,

Dan

What do you think of aero precision parts? I followed your link on my thread but I have zero experience with Aero precision and it seems they dont get a lot of press.

I dont mind piecing my builds together a little at a time but would lean towards matching uppers and lowers if I could.
Posted By: MontanaCreekHunter Re: Pieces - 06/01/13
I have an aero stripped Upper and quality seems to be good. I have not built it up yet. But it fits as tight on my Seekins lower as does the seekins upper. Which is as tight as I personally have seen. No play at all.

Well it's together and the whole process was surprisingly simple. A local smith offered to put it together for me for $75...half price...and it took me an hour with a friend who's done it some.

Everything I could find about them was good. Everything went together fine and the upper / lower fit was as good as the last upper. The finish matches everything else as well.

A freaking trained monkey could put an AR together. If anybody around Austin ever wants to put one together, give me a shout. I've got all the tools and enjoy doing it.

Well...Let's see it. Get us a pic of the newest toy.
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 06/04/13
I'll try and snap a pic tomorrow. It looks about like an AR with a tube rail, lol.

I took it out today for a test run and put about 100 rounds through it without any problems. I didn't spend a lot of time working on groups and didn't have the gear to do that right anyway, then spent the rest of the time shooting steel.

With the A5 buffer, 18" rifle gas and 1" Battlecomp this rig is smooooooth shooting. The weight of the heavy 18" barrel has a lot to do with that too, I'm sure. I noticed that my follow up shots at 100 yards were significantly faster compared to the 16" mid length (lighter barrel also) upper I was shooting before. Very noticeably faster.
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 06/15/13
Took the rig to Houston this week and placed second in a Patrol Rifle competition. Missed first place by about 2", pulled an A Zone shot at the end....but I lost to a friend so it didn't hurt so bad.

I'm really liking this set up. With the VX6 I can do a lot of good work from 5-500 yards. If I ever put a different scope on it I'll do some accuracy testing. But the current reticle I've got covers a lot at 100 yards and it's hard get precise testing done.

Had a chance to compare that VX-6 side by side to anything in low light? That is the only thing that keeps me from springing for one. I'm still eyeing the 1.5x6 Burris because of its 40mm objective.
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 06/15/13
No, but I will.

Have you looked through that Burris yet? A friend got one for 3 gun and I played with it outside a bit and thought it was horrid. The FOV was so narrow that it hurt my eye to transition quickly to new targets at 1.5x. The same friend had a a Burris 1-4 and it was far and away my favorite, even with a 4x top end. He had so much trouble at the TXMultigun Surefire match that he sold it and got a Vortex 1-6.

I have not. I have and am well pleased with a 1-4x XTR. As I'm sure you know, a scope with a low magnification that is more than say, 1.1x is a liability in a 3gun match, too many pistol distance targets. I learned that a long time ago with a 2.5X scout scope. A 1-4X, set on 1x, will spank even a forward mounted 2.5X at 7-10 yd. Double that distance and the advantage goes away.

Was your friend's 1.5-6x the MTAC or the XTR?

what reticle is in your VX-6?
Posted By: Bluedreaux Re: Pieces - 06/15/13
TAK, I'm not sure but I'm almost certain it was the cheaper model (which I think is the MTAC). FWIW, Burris has a LE / MIL program that will help offset the cost if you get one and decide you don't like it.

The Multigunner Firedot. If I had it to do over again I'd get the duplex with CDS reticle.

In fact, my firedot has been blinking when I shoot so I'm gonna send it back in and when I do, I'm gonna try and get the reticle changed out to something like their long range duplex.
Posted By: Take_a_knee Re: Pieces - 06/16/13
That VX-6 with an illuminated LRD/CDS just might turn out to be THE all-purpose scope. 6X is enough magnification to see anything that most of use have any business shooting at and a true (or very nearly true) 1x is obviously what you want up close. I'd just like to see how it'll gather light.

I ain't no glass guru but it seems to me that a 1-6X that is the approximate size of a 2.5-8X Leupold would cover all the bases. There is no substitute for objective diameter in low light.
