I have a customer building up a retro AR15. He would like a 20 in lightweight M16 or M16 style barrel - slow or fast twist in very good to excellent condition. Anyone have one for sale? MelChung PM me please, I am in Hawaii.
What you need is a Daniel Defense M4 16 inch Chrome Lined 1 & 7

Didn't you see the description of what he wanted?
not many 20 inch light weight barrels out there, if you want a 20 inch you usually have to go up in barrel diameter and weight . DD makes a 18 inch M4 I believe . I was just telling what would be his best option if he is looking for a light weight AR

He just needs to find a 20" GOV profile barrel and he's gtg. I bet he already knows this though.
The current gov profile (M16A2) is a little heavier than the M16/M16A1 profile.

Depending if the desired result is period correct, it might matter to the builder.

There were tons of these that were surplussed out when NG units converted to carbine set ups to go to Iraq. I bought a complete upper for $450 all Colt and brand new.

They are still out there but you'll probably need to post an add on arfcom or m4carbine.

Be advised they will NOT stabilize M855(green-tip) 62gr. 1 in 12 twist IIRC. Given the current bullet availability situation you couldn't give me one of those barrels.
Here ya go, Green Mountain Barrels makes em just like the ones we had in '77:

M16A1 barrels

I actually got a DD mid-length LW that I've not yet used to build one...but the pencil-barrel 20" would be quieter and produce higher velocity w lighter bullets for a handy dandy varmint/ deer/defense gun.
1 in 12 is too slow. Not enough versatility to shoot heavier bullets. I'd like one in 1 in 10 or 1 in 9. kwg

I have an 18in 1 in 8 that shoots five 77's into 3/4in and will put five 50gr HP's right on top of that group into slightly less. No plans to ever shoot anything heavier or lighter, unless I'm loading "22mag" with 40 grainers.

All I've shot for the last few years have been 77's which is why I sold my A1 upper. But after shooting a few prairie dogs, that 1/12 would be nice for some 40-50 grain loads but then again that's what I have a 204 for.
Coldcase and others: thanks for suggestions and info. Will act on green mountain bbls if no one gets back to me on a used barrel. Mel Chung
Mel, most of the M-16 barrels on the surplus market were coded out for wear or damage, and sold as surplus.

Just be aware that while your customer may get the right "look", the "original" barrel may not be the best choice for shooting.

If he decides to go CAR-15, I've got a new DPMS lightweight upper with pencil barrel that would be close, but it's a flat-top receiver.
