Im in the process of building a new 6.8 around an AR performance 18" mid weight barrel. the lower is built but Im trying to decide on a upper. Im thinking about a Mega mid length monolithic keymod upper, anyone have any experience with one? Im trying to keep the weight down somewhat if I can. the lower is a Anderson with a ambi safety; K&N pins; geiselle high speed match trigger and STR buttstock, nothing special just a good hunting gun..

You can't go wrong with the Mega. I've got an MKM MATEN and it's great. I'd bet the AR15 size is just as good. Great choice in the ARP barrel by the way. Are you a member of 68 Forums by any chance? Good resource for all things 6.8.

The billet uppers with monolithic rails are nice but the forged Mega upper with something like a Midwest K-Series hand guard will come in several ounces lighter. That is what I just did with an ARP scout barrel, like you trying to stay as lightweight as possible.

Hey also a rifle length guard will actually cover the gas block where the mid length will end just before it on that barrel you bought. You probably know that just making sure you order what you want.

A good point to bring up and why I use the Wilson TRIM 10. Very light and covers a mid length gas block.

Agreed. The forged Mega upper would also be an excellent choice. I'd go with the VTAC or Troy Alpha Rail. Uses the standard barrel nut. You've got a lot of great choices. Wish I was working on a AR build right now. They're so much fun.

I have an 18" 6.8 and I should have gone 16". I'm gaining next to nothing for the longer barrel and my 16" guns are noticeably more handy.

my 16in is shooting 1/2in at 100yds about 2 1/4 at 250yds

this 18" is getting a screw on cap instead of a flash hider so the length difference is very little over my 16"
