Doesn't appear to be GI or Springfield Armory because it doesn't have any checkering. Anybody know who made it?

never saw an M1A stock with checkering FWIW. At a glance its not a Mc Millan I don't think.
Most synthetic Springfield stocks that I've ever seen do have checkering. For example http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=411823689
Springfield has both with and without checkering, depending on when you bought the rifle.

Early, early GI fiberglass were not checkered, but it's probably not one of those.

Rumor was a Bell and Carlson special run was made for Springfield, but I don't have any solid references for that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those, never seen one in real life though. Seems the flimsy plastic ones did have checkering
This is definitely not flimsy plastic. It's a good solid stock.
Bufaf - did you buy the rifle new as pictured?
I'm sure you checked it, but I have seen one in painted wood?
I bought it used. Definitely not wood.

Never said yours was. Just recalling the issue plastic/glass stock with the M14 from days gone by. Fairly flimsy compared to a good stock.

All our M1As have Mc Millan on them so still can't help ya. Good luck.
