anyone have a favorite load for this bullet?
I have 700 to load and need a place to start. so far I have seen 25-26 grns of varget which I have some of...
That should do it.. Max loads of H335 and TAC are worth trying, too.
Very accurate in everything I've run them in. Great on deer.
I killed a spike buck with it this past season. The load was 26.5gr of Varget, which is a little warm, so work up. 1 in 7" twist Daniel Defense Mk12. I have not yet chrono'd it, but it shoots very well.
The buck was broadside about 90 yards away, and I hit him a hair low. The bullet broke the onside humerus, gouged a chunk out of the heart, and stopped in the offside hide. The jacket and core separated, but were right next to one another. The remaining parts weighed 27.7gr. The buck went 30 yards, and piled up.
I wouldn't use it on big deer, but for small deer it seemed perfectly fine. Would probably be good on yotes, bobcats, javelina, etc.
I run it on top of 25 grains of BLC-2 in a 1/8 Tikka T3.
Shot a doe through the head at 150 yards with it.
25.5 H335 in 2 of my AR's. Great bullet, kills deer and otes well.
Varget and RL-15 (24.5-25.5gr)
Ramshot TAC (24-25gr)
CCI-BR4
LC brass
2.255" COAL
These work good for me, work up your own loads though.
my 5.56 1-7 guns have always shot those bullets well over a max load of Varget.
I load them over 27 grains of Varget, seat to an LOA that is .010 under the max that will fit in an AR mag. This load has worked well in all my .223's/5.56's from 7 to 9 twist, has killed deer out to 300 yards no problem.
