I have coming inbound all the parts needed to put together an upper in 6x45. Im looking for any loads, bullets, or tricks for loading the 6x45 for the AR15 platform. I know that some bullets will be too long and not work with the reduced OAL that the AR Magazine is restricted to.

Im going to use this for mostly predator hunting and maybe some occasional deer/bou hunting. I already have some 85gr partitions and am planning on picking up some 85gr Sierra BTHP game kings. I also want to pick up some FMJ either 80gr hornady or 90gr sierra for predator hunting.

Parts for the build
1-8 twist 20 barrel
bushmaster upper w/parts kit
hogue FF handguard
YHM low profile gas block

Thanks for your info

The only bullet you will need for coyote size animals is the 55-65g weights & its good to 600 yards.
The bullet for deer/antelope size will be the 80-95g weights.
I built a AR15 and Savage bolt action 6x45 and use them extensively down here.
After a heck of a lot of test loads my 65g vmax and 80g speer loads does the job 100% of the time and over 400 coyotes to the 65g vamx and 13 antelope w/the 80g says it all.
These will also print sub moa at 100 yds and moa to 600 easy in my rigs.
Powders that work great...H335/h4198/blc2/w748/exterminator.
My go to for the 55-65 is exterminator
80-95g H335.

Here is all the loads you will ever need. Just find one that works for your usage.

Or shoot a 70gr Ballistic tip at everything.
^^^ This is what I use-Nosler 70g Bal Tip with tip removed to better fit Pmag and not intrude as much into powder space. 8208 XBR works well in my rifle-cant remember exact charge and i am away from my dara.

Try the 70gr TNT instead of removing plastic tips. It's a good bullet that shoots really well, and relatively inexpensive.
I ran into a deal on a boatload of sierra gameking 85gr game kings Im going to start with. I picked up some H335 yesterday and will probably use them to start loading with. I have used that 85gr gameking in the past in the 243 and always found it to be an impresive bullet. Im hoping it will work equally well out of the 6x45. It should do well as a predator/medium game bullet at 2700-2800

It will work fine -

That's what I ran in mine for a good bit. BC of a mattress but the little 6x is a short ranger anyway.

Good deer combo for sure with reliable exits.

If I had to choose 1 bullet for the 6x, it would be the 80 grain Winchester SP...

Josh,
24.4g h335 with the 85g SGKHP will go 2728 in a 24" bbl and this is a pretty moderate load, the bullet will end up into the power also at 2.250" col. Could go few tenths higher perhaps, but not by much and is very accurate at 400 yards. 500 yards as accurate, BUT the energy is down a lot for large game like deer.
400 yards it punches through 1/8" soft steel.
First loads for the new upper

85gr sierra GK HPBT
24.5gr H335
Fed 205 match
2.254 COL
virgin hornady cases

I hope these 85gr sierra GK work out as I have several hundred of them. IT was a favored bullet in my 243 winchester. 6x45 on the right 223 55gr SP on the left.

70 Gr speer TNT with a health dose of IMR 8208 XBR. It shoots sub-moa for me in 2 different AR's.

curious about the 70 grain BT and what velocities you can get with this cartridge. I presume you just run 223 brass thru the sizing die, trim and load. Anyone using an 18 inch barrel or 16 inch barrel with this round? Why the 6x45 over say the 6.8SPC?
Posted By: Pahntr760 Re: 6x45 in AR15 platform - 02/04/15
I have the 70 gr TNT at 2800 in my 2 rifles. It is a simple as one pass through the sizer die for case forming. The 6.8 SPC is a great round, but a different niche, me thinks. But I like the stamdard mag configuration of the 6x45 and it just plain works.

I would like a 6.8 spc in the future, but it's a ways down the list for me...

I run 70gr BT's from a 20" bolt at a little over 3K.

Is that with the h335? Both our AR's are 20" bbl as well. Id not mind a little more speed, if the accurary is maintained.

Ive used Varget before, great accuracy, but that was before I owned a chrony. I am wondering how quick they were. I have also heard of folks getting good speeds with LeverEvolution powder...

I worked up a 95 gr SST load with TAC and it shot 2300 fps, but we didn't get a chance to try it on deer this year.

These rifles are fun, just plain fun.

Yep, H335
Posted By: jimmyp Re: 6x45 in AR15 platform - 02/04/15
the standard mag configuration is a big plus. Looks like DTECH makes an upper with a LW barrel, components readily available, same bolt, same magazine, would the 85 grain TSX be worth looking at or may not expand at 6x45 velocity?
Posted By: Steelhead Re: 6x45 in AR15 platform - 02/04/15
It will expand.

I've said many times before, the 6x45 is fun to play with but the 223 is a FAR better mousetrap for everything.

That's true. But it sure is a lot of fun...Especially in an AR, it knida makes sense. 80+ grain bullets in a 223 AR is tough given the mag restrictions.

But I originally got the 6X45 due to caliber restrictions when we were in Utah. No 22 cal allowed for BG. After putting one togheter, I decided it was fun enough and got another for me.

I am still thinking a short-ish bolt rifle, threaded for a can. 80 somethings out of it for deer in PA when we make it back. I love the low recoil and still heavy-ish bullets. Again, no real other reason then for fun...
Posted By: jimmyp Re: 6x45 in AR15 platform - 02/04/15
that's me as well, my 223 with TSX bullets kills deer and pigs about as well as my 308 does with 150 cup and core bullets. At the same time the 6x45 fits into the category "its a different caliber to play with".
Got the upper finished. I had to wait for the muzzle brake to come in. Turned out pretty good. The upper turned up lighter than I figured it would and the 3-9x40 should work nicely, I think it will be great after I get the CDS turret for it.
