I'm old.. I still like irons

I work in LE and we have used EoTech sights and Aimpoints. I really like the battery life of the Aimpoint and the single dot, to me, is more versatile than the 65 MOA reticle on its own.

But, the 65 MOA reticle is great indoors and the non-tubilar construction and wider FOV seems to keep you from getting tunnel visioned and lets me keep my head on a swivel. When I need to be more precise at longer ranges, the back uo irons come up and I can really dial in. So, for me, the EoTech with good BUIS makes for a great package.

I havent seen the EoTech issues with temp ranges because I live in a very temperate environment. I have seen issues with battery springs getting loose or soft and causing connectivity issues on units that house batteries parallel to the barrel. I now use a unit with the battery situated perpendicular to the bore and have had no issues

KAC 200-600 micro BUIS combined w/ T2 on a lower 1/3rd cw mount. Kinda like the old DD 1-pc fixed micro mount for being light, simple, and bomb proof.

Oh, and I dont use any magnified sights because most of my use for the rifle is close quarters and even sights that offer 1x arent completely without some distortion and feeling of tunnel vision.

You guys run the Eotech 512? What buis do you run?

I ran and Eotech 512 on my LE patrol rifle for several years, and really liked the reticle. For the last few yars I've been running the Aimpoint PRO.

The 512 reticle was very fast, but I've come to like the single dot of the PRO.

BUIS are more precise than a 1MOA dot?

I like an Aimpoint based on size, battery life and durability.

Interesting, I was thinking same...

I cut my front sights down on my match rifles... to where they were equal to about 6 moa width.. IIRC the standard front sight is about double what I used, which would mean 12moa width.

Its not that I can't drop shots precisely with 12 moa, but optics certainly make that easier and more precise.

I think you meant to say "BUIS are more precise than a 2 MOA Dot....and add really tell us more". You and I are in serious trouble, so much talent out there.

I'm pretty sure Eotechs are 1MOA for the center dot.

I've never been in combat, never even played a video game but for playing on the range I like the 2 MOA Aimpoint Micro. Preferably with a fixed FSB and a fixed LaRue rear sight with the same plane aperture. In fact I need to replace the Troy flip up I have now.

I've tried eo-techs plenty of times and they either ate batteries or the dot got too pixalated for my vision or they blinked off after a shot. I do like the reticle design but that's it. My last try was the sideways battery model that had a built in QD lever, I thought it was going to work till I shot one day and it blinked off and wouldn't come back on till I pulled the batteries out and put them back in. It worked fine the rest of the day but confidence was lost again. I did try them from the old N battery Bushnell, a 511, a few 512's and the latest one so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just a fluke.

Aimpoints, I bought 2 ML3's and had no issues but switched to scopes. Bought a used M2 and just didn't like it. Had an H1 and loved it but sold it to try an acog. Sold the acog and bought my current T2. I use them in a LaRue lower 1/3rd mount.

The 2 MOA dot works for me, battery life is outstanding so I just leave it on, the covers are well thought out and have held up so far. The dial is big enough to adjust the brightness easily and it weighs next to nothing.

I have an astigmatism in my right eye and artificial light of any kind tends to mess up my ability to focus. I also have issues with certain pistol sights that are really bright. I don't mind the Aimpoint dot too much, but for some reason the EoTech donut of death causes me issues. So, when I shoot with an EoTech and shots get out past 100 to 150 yards or so, I use the BUIS (Troy).

We did run the 512. I am using an XPS2 right now. I've been using a Troy flip up rear sight. I like the ease of going between the large and small aperture and the metal construction. Probably really doesn't make much difference but I've had it for several years and have had good luck with it.

OK EoTechs, thinking T1 my mistake.

I dont know what your definition of close is but for indoors and under 25 yards I like a HK style hooded front with the Ashley white stripe front sight. I found it to be the most universally visible sight under any lighting conditions indoors and out. Past 25 yards I am finding myself to be much faster and more precise with a dot or 1x scope.
