I had one like it. Sold it to build a Stainless threaded 20in. Mine shot 115 Fusions in a one ragged hole.

Nosler is making the 110 AB this month. They have been non existent for 2 years. The Hornady 120 SST works well also.

Ive been shooting my AR's in 6.8 alot
4 deer and a hog so far over the last 3 years

Its very accurate, but has a thin jacket. Most people say its a varmit round. It frags when it hits bone
Posted By: ingwe Re: 6.8spc - 08/07/16
Likewise good to know....theres no problem getting Barnes when it is time to go hunting....and I know how to make them shoot.....

eek
Posted By: ingwe Re: 6.8spc - 08/07/16
How about any other big game bullets in the 6.8? Haven't heard good things about SSTs....in anything
Posted By: TLB2 Re: 6.8spc - 08/07/16
SST works great in 6.8 because the velocity is lower. Its a Hog hammer.

Some people hunt with 130's

This guy prefers the SST

I've owned two of the 6.8 Light Tactical 700, wish I had them back.

I would try the E-tip, Prohunter's shot well in mine.

The 130 grain Ballistic Tip is from the older stock, not sure how the jacket is on the newer models.

Perhaps a thread on how to hold, cut and finish sectioning a bullet like this? That is a very clean cut.

Thanks for going to the trouble! Great info and pics!

I dabbled a little with the 6.8, and still have a couple AR barrels & bolt. If someone wants them shoot me a PM, they will be reasonable. Think I'll probably work with a Grendel next.

FWIW, Nosler says the jacket and core of the BT are the same as the Accubond, just not bonded. Changes to the BT jacket over the years can confuse the comparison though.

Ingwe what load was that?

Just FYI, Cabela's has al Nosler on sale for 25% off. Not sure if yours are in stock or not.

Go to 6.8 Forums, there is a lot of info there.

So the 85TSX killed a deer last year, at 20 yards and it seems to be a harder bullet, so I have some 95TTSX I am shooting this year over benchmark.

You need a sample to try? I'll send some your way.
Posted By: bcraig Re: 6.8spc - 08/14/16
Once again,go to 68forums. There is a huge database of bullet test in various test media including deer and hogs.btw the hornady 120 sstt is highly regarded as a deer and hog bullet. Or just continue to guess !!
Posted By: constructor Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
Most of the shots made in this video were the same guy. He is a hog eradicator and uses the 120sst mainly...for good reason. They dump nearly all of their energy into the hog. It's best not to shoot a deer using the 120sst near any meat you want to keep.
Any of the Barnes bullet retain their weight and pass through, even length ways. Hornady GMX does the same.

I took your advice and looked at the 6.8 forum...it was a LOT of help developing a load and determining the right seating depth..I got instantly better results at the range...
Posted By: jimmyp Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
I used to just seat mine out to be a skootch under magazine length, but all gone now..

Thats exactly what I ended up doing. Left 1mm play in the box...and suddenly all bullets started shooting better! laugh
Posted By: jimmyp Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
TTSX?? or everythin...
Posted By: ingwe Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
Everything. Yeah...the TTSX surprised me, but it shot better with the longer COAL....
Posted By: MichiganScott Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
I've settled on the 95gr TTSX over a max load of Rl-10 loaded to mag length. It's as accurate as anything I've ever shot in my AR.
Posted By: fredIII Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
If running the TTSX. PRI mags are the way to go in the AR platform they give more room for COAL.
Posted By: ingwe Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
Good to know...but this is a Remington LTR...bolt gun. And Im getting the length I apparently need, cause the TTSXs are shooting! laugh
Posted By: TLB2 Re: 6.8spc - 08/15/16
The bolt gun can handle hotter loads as well laugh
Posted By: jimmyp Re: 6.8spc - 08/16/16
yep PRI, I would not mind a model 7 in the 6.8.
Posted By: Talenel Re: 6.8spc - 08/16/16
I've had good luck with 90 gr Nosler bonded out of both my 20" AR and my 20" bolt gun I built out of a Savage donor rifle.

I averaged 3004 FPS out of the bolt gun with a medium load and the bullets touch each other at 100. A real fun gun to shoot, and easily my most accurate rifle.

Two shots, two bang flops. Nice 8 point for the AR, doe for the bolt gun.

I've since built a lighter weight 16" AR in .277 Wolverine and use that mostly, unless I might need to stretch out and reach them past 250.

Just took my caribou with 120 SST. It went two steps. No meat damage and my POF shoots them less than MOA. Also a very popular cartridge on the 6.8 forum with the hog hunters.
Posted By: tex_n_cal Re: 6.8spc - 08/17/16
Shot a doe last year with the 123 SST from a 7.62x39 - launched from a Ruger #1, which gets a little faster velocity than an AK. The deer only ran 40 yards, but the bullet did not penetrate straight, which bothers me.
Posted By: Reloader7RM Re: 6.8spc - 08/17/16
Artic,

Did you get an exit?

Posted By: Reloader7RM Re: 6.8spc - 08/17/16
Maker is about to release all copper 85 and 95grn Tipped pills that have better expansion than the TTSX as well as a lower impact V expansion.

Looks really interesting for the 6.8 and priced at $33-36/50.

I've been shooting called yotes with a remmy 6.8SPC for a few years, and have been pretty happy with it.

havent tried many deer-class bullets as i wanted more splatter factor, and i mostly shoot Speer 90gr TNT's, which shot well for me with a stout load of H335.

however, I did get some Nosler 90gr bonded and some Federal 90gr bonded bulk, PM me your address & i'll send you some to try out...

[Linked Image]

last year i had it cerakoted it in Tungsten, and rattle canned the stock.

[Linked Image]

shot a couple of hogs with those 90gr TNT's, and headshots really rang their gong....no blood trailing required...

Ingwe...these are the 6.8 gold dot component bullets i have, if you'd like to test some:

have you shot a deer with the 90's seems interesting.

PM sent...thanks!

I like that treatment on your LTR! I switched the stock on mine to a B&C Mountain Rifle stock, and changed it up from an adl to bdl...

I've shot deer with both the Nosler 90 gr bonded, and the Gold Dot 90gr.

None went more than 50 yards after a heart/lung shot even with the lower velocities of the .277 Wolverine vs the 6.8.

I'm going to try the Gold Dot this deer season. I bought several hundred of the factory loads and my 16 inch Stag likes them.

From what I've seen on the 6.8 forums they perform pretty well.

They should do the trick for you.
