Nice looking rifle, deere2320. Looks like you're on a roll.

Thank you Sir.

I have sized and fired 4 rounds so far so I could get my sizing dies set up. Scope should be here this week can't wait to start shooting it.

I've never lock-tited ring screws, but I had an Aero mount like that one and the ring screws kept backing out on it so you may want to bear that in mind. It was on a 5.56 AR with a 6X SWFA SS, so it was a light kicking rifle with a fairly heavy scope. Not knocking Aero's stuff (got their upper and lower), just my experience with that mount.
Running Burris med. tacticals now.

Let us know how that Black Hole Barrel shoots!

I will definitely let you know about the Blackhole Weaponry barrel. Thanks for the heads up on the mount but I already have alot of them and have never had any issue with mine but I always torque them.

Scope finally came now I can get to shooting this thing!

Great looking gun. Nice shooting!

Very nice!

Nice build. What sort of velocities would you expect with the heavier 6mm projectiles? How heavy can the round go at mag length?
Posted By: deere2320 Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/11/16
Thanks guys. I know alot of guys run the 87gr and I believe they run a little heavier. The guy to ask is the fellow who developed the round his name is Ritch Johnson look him up under Ritch's Precision guns he can save you money on Blackhole Weaponry barrel's and a super guy to talk to.

I use the ch4d die set it is a straight neck down one pass through the dies and you're ready to seat the bullet. There's guys that are killing antelopes with it at 650 yards.
Posted By: 5spd Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/12/16
^^^^^^ I use the same dies as well.

My son shot his 1st nice Antelope buck at 515 yards last week with my 6x6.8

What bullet is the big game answer for this to fit mag length
Posted By: fredIII Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/12/16
A 90 grn ballistic tip would be AWSOME on blacktail at 2800 FPS
Posted By: deere2320 Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/13/16
I'm not sure as of now just using the 58gr at this time but I am sure 5spd could answer that one.
Posted By: 5spd Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/13/16
In the AR15 I ran every bullet at 2.250" including the 90 &95g weights.
In my Savage 6x6.8 the col on all bullets is 2.290"
Yes the 90g NHBT is as good/accurate as the 95g NHBT.

Deere2320 if you have any 55g bullets give them a try also, same powder load works on them.

FWIW I just stumbled across a load note last night, 27.0 benchmark, and 85 tsx in the 6x6.8 in a shilen tube shot .5 moa give or take....

Verify that load in other data to make sure my note was not wrong, but it shot well enough that it was the first and last load I"ve ever tried in mine...

If I ever shoot the gun out of ammo, I"ll be trying 80 ttsx instead, but the 85s have done extremely well, 150 plus pound deer I've shot lengthwise trying to catch the bullet and never have....

What kind of speeds can be expected from 80-90gr bullets in a typical 20-22" AR in this chambering?
Posted By: Walter_Sobchak Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/14/16
I built one with a BHw 18" barrel in 2015. Using the CH4D dies also.

I haven't had time to load for it or shoot it since last fall but did look at my notes. I was running Sierra 85 hpbt at 2780 or so.

A test load with 87 vmax averaged 2840 for 5 shots.

I didn't try anything else, both those shot well enough so I went with the Sierra 85 and imr8208

I think you could get 2800ish with a 90gr NBT in an 18" or longer tube

I've been impressed with this cartridge so far
Posted By: JPro Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/14/16
I could see an 18" gun with the 80gr TTSX/GMX or 90gr E-Tip being fun for deer and hogs around here.
Posted By: deere2320 Re: My 6X6.8 build - 10/14/16
I really like this cartridge it is turning out to be a super fun round. In 3 shot groups it will easily put two bullet's in the same hole.

My Savage bolt build.
22"" barrel I am getting 3037 w the 95g NHBT, 3044 w the 87 vmax, 3047 w the 85g SGKHP, 3105 w the 90 g NHBT all with x8208 powder
2.285 col. These are the same loads I ran in my ar15, but at 2.255" col.
