What do you want to do with it?

Defining your vision of how you think you will use it helps scope the cost and the recommendation.

the only negative for the Ruger SR762 is that its a heavy bugger, the Smith MP10 was lighter but not as accurate, both work just dandy with Pmags the Ruger seems to like WW 150 grain powerpoints or what ever they are calling them these days. I would avoid the DPMS GEN 2.

i would like to use it to hunt. mostly deer and hogs.
i have a Leupold 1.75-6x32 VX3 that i will be putting on it.

I'd look hard at the S&W in that price range, the Rugers around here are a little outside your range. I have a Palmetto PA10 that works well, and can be accurate and cost a lot less than your price range. Only issue is the trigger sucks. also, it's not finished as nicely as the smiths I've handled. I also like the 18" barrel on the S&W, my PA10 has a 16" tube, and it makes people move away when I'm on the range. Muzzle blast is impressive.

The Smith MP-10 is a 1.5-2" rifle, easy carry, decent set-up from the factory. The barrel is lightweight, and the rifle is a decent entry level .308, IMHO.

It's not a match rifle, and it's not going to get to match level without some investment. I had one, liked it, but found I could build as good for accuracy, and with the ability change parts if I wanted.

The basic DPMS line with get you hunting, if you are still not sure how deep you want to get into a AR-10 sized rifle...some guy on here by the handle of "djones" seems to do OK with a DPMS, with a few mods...

If you are looking at rifles, I've had good results with Aero AR-10 products as well.

What's the Armalite sell for these days? If I could learn to control vertical from a rest, my stainless AR10 would shoot bugholes. As it is, I've shot groups that were 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall.

AR stocks just aren't conducive to benchrest. frown

Nice work.

Just FYI, you can expect it to be pretty badly overgassed. When you install the new barrel, it would be a good idea to install an adjustable gas block too. Doesn't have to be an expensive one, a simple set screw type will do.

Can't beat that price. With a good barrel, you're still in a very good price range.

That'll do!

Mine has a 1in 10 twist and likes 175s or 180 grain boolits

I have a Rock River 308. Very accurate!! 1200.00 bucks

I have the Smith & Wesson M&P10, 7.62.
Switched out the trigger to a Timney and Handguard to a Midwest Industries and mounted my Gemtech Suppressor and 5/8 to 3/4" groups are the norm. Really like it for a hog killing machine!

Guys, wondering why no one mentioned the Remington R25's. Where do they stack up in the line? Have been thinking about getting one and would like to know the good and bad. Wallacem

If you're open to a 260 I have a great-shooting custom I'm just about to post online for sale. 20" Black Hole Weaponry barrel, Specialty Weapon Systems forend, Geissele trigger, on DPMS receivers with Magpul PRS stock. Can't remember if I have an adjustable gas block or a standard. Shoots 123 AMAX and 139 Scenars way sub MOA. Feel free to shoot me a PM or email if interested.

It's a re-badged DPMS
And they have the GII (generation two) version as well.
GII is the first compact large frame AR.
I have not tried one.

I'd stretch just a little and get an Aero Precision.

The Seekins SP10 will be marked down to around 2k on Friday, that might be a better option for a few bucks more?
