I picked up a very nice dpms ar10 lite hunter in .260 a couple weeks ago . I have .243 and .308 brass on hand at this time , what do you guys do to make both of these into good reliable .260 brass ? I`ve tried after reading some very informative articles on sizing up the .243 . and sizing down the .308 . Any tips or techniques that you are willing to share with me would be great .Gary

When I had a .260 I just bought .260 brass. I didn't like the idea of mixing headstamps as I also have 308, 7mm-08, and 243 rifles.

With the .260, you can just run 308 brass straight in with most brass brands, no need for any intermediate steps in my experience. It's pretty easy.

Anneal after sizing down, not before. Annealing before produced excessive neck thickness variations and runout for me. You may need to neck turn after sizing down, depending on your chamber and the brass.

I have not necked up .243 to .260 so don't have any comments on that one.

I ran a couple .308 brass through my .260 fl sizing die.measurements were good, bullet seated fine, charged my gun and loaded a round.Minus primer n powder.Chambered a round.But had to tap charging handle lightly with a rubber mallet to eject this new sized brass n bullet ? I must be missing something in my process ie neck turning ?. Gary

Yeah check the neck diameter. If you're not sure of your chamber's neck dimension, candle soot or sharpie marker on the case neck will show you if it's touching all the way around. I use mil 7.62 brass, and definitely need to neck trim although that's for 6.5 Creedmoor.

Sometimes the necks retain a little flare at the mouth after sizing down, check for that too.

Also, check the base to shoulder datum with a comparator, compared to your fired rounds in that chamber. It's possible you may need to set the die a little deeper when forming brass than you need when just sizing fired brass; the shoulder might not be pushed back far enough in the forming operation, if it needs to be pushed back.

WOW ! Wish I would of thought of that .LOL .
If that shipment of ssa comes in at midway I`ll be all over it pal .I`m knee deep in snow and just passing time using what brass I have. But hey,your idea would be easier .

While I`m talking making things easier .Anyone try the PRIME AMMO ? 308 , .260 ? At $26 / 20 not to bad I guess.Then I would have some good once fired brass and good factory ammo also, hopefully . Thanks
