I know this no big deal to most but I tried to avoid the heard. And stay away, but I could not hold out any longer. I picked up a Windham Weaponry SRC 7.62x39 price was right to. Shot it for the first time today. Put on a set of cheap flip up sights and was soon ringing steel at 200 yds, kept saying to myself this is to easy. Went through about 80 rds in 2 hrs. Give or take, also shooting my glock 41 during that time. A good day indeed. I did have one light primer stike. Rechambered and it fired the second time around. Steel case Russian 123 gr hp ammo. Now I am going to need more magazines. More fun than I thought it would be. (I am hooked)

I, too avoided the ARs for a long time, but they have a utility my bolt rifles cannot provide. First one came with two uppers, a .300 Blackout and a .223/5.56. That one became two complete rifles a year or so later. Just finished a .308 build.

Be careful - they seem to be like rabbits.

a familiarity with weapons of all types is an enabling knowledge.

I can tell I will enjoy this rifle a lot. I doubt I will get other calibers. I am not a fan of 223/556 and I don't need other 30 cal. brls. This 7.62x39 should do everything I need.

Although I like the .223 a lot (have on in AR and one in a Ruger MKII), I was like you and thought my first purchase (a gently used S&W M&P 15 with two uppers, a S&W .300BLK and a Rock River 'Coyote' .223/5.56 Wylde upper) would be my first and last.

The next purchase was a Rock River lower to go with the Rock River upper I already had. Then I bought AR15's for two of my daughters (the other got a 1911). Then I decided I needed an AR10 and built one in .308.

Although I hate chasing brass (and use a catcher most of the time), AR's are a hoot to shoot. My .223/5.56 is twisted 1-8 so it will handle the heavies my 1-12 .223 Ruger, which prefers 40g above all else, will not. The .300BLK was purchased with subsonics in mind, although I have yet to purchase a suppressor. The .308 serves somewhat the same purpose as my Ruger Scout in .308, both intended for use with suppressed supersonics. The .308 was built with the intention to purchase other uppers later, or at least make such purchases possible, the .308 just being the first.

All this happened over the course of several years but when i first bought the S&W I really thought that would be the end of it. Good luck on that.

ARs are just Tinkertoys for adults ...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I do Iike the idea of a 308 win AR.

I'm finally getting me one too...

Let me start by saying that the 223/.556 is to much and to little. It is to much for smaller fur barring animals (lynx,fox rabbits etc.) If you want to save the hide.And in my opinion to small for moose,caribou,bear,sheep.
And the 300 blackout for me is to much like the 7.62x39 it's not worth the expense But who knows what might happen.
