I need to scope my new Number One. The Burris 2-7x35 feals a little large for the rifle. The gun feals great without a scope. But I need to see the dark edges...

Scope suggestions please.

Leupold VX3 1.5-5x. Light, small.

Nice looking rifle.

Cheers, Chris

It may be the angle from which I am seeing it, but that ocular bell appears oversize, compared to the Leupolds. A matte 1.5x5 or the VXII 2x7, or even the 2.5x8 are rather trim on this rifle. That is what I would be checking out

Get an older Leupold M8 4x28. They are perfect for rifles such as yours (I have one on #1As in .270 and 30-06, my 1S "Boddington" in 300 H&H). I like it better than any other on these rifles.

If you can deal with the parallax the Leupold RF 2X7 is a dandy. It has great lines, and is sized properly. Actually the parallax is not an issue for a woods rifle. Tom.

My 1A carries a Vari-X II 2x7, seems about right.

Yep...my vote goes to the Leupy 2x7 as well.

Ditto, I have a Vari-X II 2x7 on my 1A and have a VXII 2x7 to go on the 1S when it arrives.

+1

Interestingly, going by the thread title, if the rifle is planned for leopard hunting from a blind - this combination would very much be Kevin Robertsons perfect for that kind of hunt.

I quote from "The perfect shot" page 123:

" Ihave long believed that a good single-shot rifle in a sweet-shooting, light-recoiling calibre like 7x57 or .308 Win. topped with a quality 4x scope would make the ideal rifle for such a hunt."

That's a nice looking little rifle!

Agree, a smaller scope, likely something simple, would be best. I've done most of my hunting the past few years with a pair of fixed 6x Leupolds. The smaller version would likely look great on that rifle...

Send it to me, I'll scope it with my 6x, try it for a few years and send you reports & photos time to time??? grin

I have an older Weaver K6 with 32 or so mm objective on mine, the scope is long but sleek IMHO. Works for me.

Not a Boddington btw, just a normal 1-A.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Look, I don't usually help out strangers but......... that gun is junk and I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on a scope for it. Instead sell the gun to me GRIN!

Here's one we just received and photed. Its everything, IMHO, a #1 should be, elegant and in a classic chamber:

Of course, I'm not happy that Ruger is no longer making the 1_A in 7mm frown

I would love to own that one. What a great looking rifle and I'd love to have a 7x57. Someone's a lucky camper.

It will have to be someone in Canada! smile

I figured that, but it would be nice. Question for general information, can it be sold to a US citizen who is in Canada visiting?

Yes, I even know who to get to do the 'export' to the US.
