What can I expect for accuracy from this little wonder in 7mm Mag with good optics and ammo.
old model from the 1970's, or new release?
My .25-06 from the mid-70's is stunning, with preferred loads.
That would be a new one...
Free floated barrels foo the factory, with the for end solidly bedded to the hidden for end hanger in front of the action.
Great barrels with good chambers.
Since 1980 I have owned an even dozen B-78s, 1885s(both high and low walls). They have all been among the most accurate out of the box factory rifles I have ever owned.
They will run with the best sporting bolt rifles made in that regard.
My 1973 B78 in 30-06 will shoot 3/4 in. groups at 100 yds. What I really like is it shoots 165 gr. Nosler BTs and Barnes Xs to same POI.
Mine shot 1 hole groups with the first load I tried. It was W760 with 140's that I recall.
The guns are capable, but I have never owned or handled one with a really nice clean light trigger. Do not tinker with the trigger, it takes someone who knows what they are doing. Enjoy!
And don't EVER take the action apart unless you totally know what you're doing! I stripped mine once, and it took me three evenings to get it back together. What an idiot. I swore never again. It (octagon bbl .30'06) was the most accurate out-of-the-box factory rifle I ever owned, with the lousiest factory trigger I ever owned.
My 22-250 shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards!
My 70's era 25-06 shoots 5/8". As stated, trigger was horrible, and even when professionally tuned, it is only good for several hundred shots before needing re-tuning.
My 35 yr. old 30-06 B78 will still do 3 shots into an inch at 100 yd.
had a 7mag that was everything Les Bowman ever claimed as a long range elk killer with 160 gr....but too damn heavy, still think about getting another and trying to chop couple three pounds off it.

There are tear down instructions you can download off the 'net now that make it a cinch!
