anyone here with a 1-s .405? is the barrel profile on that one sewer-pipe-sized like the .458's?

liking the idea of the .405, but not if they are log-heavy. if anyone doies have one, what is the weight of the bare gun?

Thanks!

The .405 H is the baby version of the .458. I have both and the .405 is streamlined compared to the .458. But if your shooting that .458 you don't mind the extra weight of the .458 barrel. Yes, and they both are wonderfully accurate with any bullet I've ever tried in them.

FyrepowrX,

As you may or may not know, there are two different barrel contours on the 1-H. The .405 Win and the .375 H&H share the smaller one. While the .416's, .404 Jeffery, .458 Win and Lott, have the "log-heavy" one that you refer to...

P.S: I don't like the heavy one either... smile My .416 Rem weighs in at about 9.8 lbs, IIRC, with no scope or mounts...

Gents..Thanks, very helpful. i can live with the factory profile that is the same as the .375-H&H, guessing that may put the .405 within a half pound or so of my 1-s 45/70.

Go for it.My 405 shoots like a varmint rifle as for as being accurate.

If it's any help, I went down to the cave and weighed a few #1's tonite. My 1-H in .375 H&H weighs 8.3 lbs with no scope or rings. My 1-H in .416 Rem weighs in at 9.45 lbs ; and my 1-H in .405 Win (Which is the SS/Lam version) weighs in at 9.15 lbs, with a 4x Leupold in Extension rings and a Pachmayr Decelerator added...

I'd think, a blued/Walnut one with std rings and a 3x Leupold might just tip the scales at an even 9.0 lbs or less... smile

Hope that helps...

Not a Ruger #1 but still a single shot. Just put it on the scale and it comes in at 6 lbs 10 oz..

Ken,

That should be a 'Hammer of Thor'... On both ends!

I'm thinking I should have a .405 bbl for my Encore. smile

The No1 405 I have is 8.30 lbs, while the 450/400 is 7.94!!

For comparison the 45-70 is 7.25. And the 416 Rem I used to have was 9.31.

Hope that helps.

GH,

This is my second barrel. I shot the first barrel with RJM and he had his #1. He liked it so much that I sold it to him. About 3 weeks later this barrel was on gunbroker with a buy now so I did just that. I haven't even sighted this barrel in yet but it's due. Recoil is about equal to a 30-06. Might have something to do with stock configuration. "Hammer of Thor" it just might be !!!!!!!!!!
