Hello All,
I had the opportunity to handle a Blazer single shot yesterday chambered in 7x57. It's a very petite little rifle and felt great. The workmanship was very good, as I would expect. I'm not sure what grade it was, but was well embellished. It had a price tag of around $4700. I'm thinking recoil might be a little stiff in such a light rifle. (I guessed around 6lbs?) Anyone here own one? or have any experience with them?

I have one (K95) in 270Win. It easily shoots .5" groups. Stock is well designed so recoil is not an issue in that caliber. With a Ziess Conquest 3x9, my K95 weighs 6 pounds 14 ounces. "Mountain rifle Extraordinare".

rj,
It seemed very light, and I was thinking it would be the perfect mountain rifle. I'm not sure how serious I am about purchasing one, but it was very nice. I'm glad you enjoy yours.

I think you mean a BLASER

A Blazer was a cheap CVA muzzleloader made in Spain.

Sorry for the mis-spell, and I think you are right!

I have a K95 in 30/06. Recoil should not be an issue; at least it is not for me. Excellent trigger, light weight, take-down capability for packing, excellent trigger; expensive in real dollars? Perhaps, but very good quality and the ability to add an additional barrel. Very accurate too.

I have a K95 Blaser and I can echo the comments offered above. Maybe the most accurate rifle I own. it easily can shoot better than I can shoot it. Extremely well engineered, built and balanced, it is a dream to carry and shoot. Add to all that, the ability to change barrels and you have a really nice package.
Posted By: gewehrfreund Re: Blazer single shot - 04/24/12
No big deal.
I'd like a Blaser too. I can't say the same about a Blazer smile
Posted By: nsaqam Re: Blazer single shot - 04/24/12
The K95 is one of my dream rifles.

I love the breech block lockup, much much better IMO than a simple break open.

I have a K-95 Stutzen in 243. It's just a wonderful little rifle for the Michigan deer woods. Like carrying a toy out there, that is until the trigger is pulled. Accurate, crisp trigger, very lightweight, next to no recoil. It's a go-to rifle for me, that is...as long as the weather is nice. Would hate to get the little bugger mussed up....
Posted By: rj308 Re: Blazer single shot - 04/25/12
Mine is the "Prestige" model, which is just one step up from the standard K95. The Prestige model goes for about $4700 now. When I bought mine, about 12 years ago, the went for about $2800. I traded a couple of used rifles and the rest cash. The Germans definitely know something about light weight accuracy. Handling of these things is unbelievably nice.

I have a K95 Luxus in .308. What can I say, It's the perfect mountain rifle. Have a Minox 3-9x40 on it now, but will have a 2.5-8x36 Leo soon.
Posted By: retrieverman Re: Blazer single shot - 05/05/12
I realize that I am a little late to the party, but I have two K95's with a total of three barrels. My first was a Euro stocked Prestige in 30-06, and my second is a American stocked Luxus in 243. I recently added a 52 cm 9.3x74r barrel.

I will freely admit that the recoil is a little stiff with the 9.3x74r, but it isn't so unpleasant that I don't enjoy shooting it.

Here is a picture of the Prestige with the 52cm barrel and a new illuminated S&B 8x56mm scope. This is my night set up for hogs.

Mad Dog has them for sale on Gunbroker.

When you say "Mad Dog," do you mean that's the name of the manufacturer?

Think it would fit like that on a Ruger 1-A?

I looked these rifles up on GunBroker since I had never heard of them. Immediately they reminded me of the Merkels K1 (K2,K3,K4). I thought the Merkels were expensive but compared to the Blasers they look like a bargain gun now. Any one here have any experience with a Merkel K1?
Posted By: writing_frog Re: Blazer single shot - 05/10/12

Hello Ashworth,

I use K1 for 13 years now. Mine is 7x65R and my daughter's is 6,5x57R in schtuzen model. They use the same locking as K95 Blaser (german brevet of 1905 from Herr Jager).

Accuracy is fantastic like K95 and far easier to get than light rifle like Montana (i know i have one too). No need to develop special technique for shooting good. The two we use in family are real 2/3 of moa rifles with RWS or Norma factory loading.

I used also K1 in 30R Blaser caliber, 9,3x74R (recoil a bit) and 7Rem Mag. Today it's replaced by the K3 with its easier to use scope mounts. The K2 replaced by K4 are steel receiver versions, more expansive, bit heavier but interesting if you go to recoiling calibers.

My first K1 was like a guided missile launcher, with it shot 23 games with 25 bullets : the biggest a good scandinavian moose took two bullets (second just in case)the 25th bullet was on wild boar, shot high on spine, who fell to recover and flew away 5mn after, healed and was killed next week. All other 22 shots were one shot kill from 15 to 350 meters, wild boars, roe deers, red deer does and spikes, mouflons
and one fox.
In driven hunt or on stalk. Scope was a fixed 4 S&B.

I sold it to a friend and got another last year, shot gams, wild boars, red deer spike and mouflon. It's really a fantastic rifle.
My daughter got her first game with her 6,5x57R last season, and two more in 2012. This one mount a Swaro.

If you find one in good shape goes for it or buy a K3. You will like them.

Just for the eyes, except if your wallet is fuller than mine: may be not US taste and pictures not too good but very very nice wood and oil treatment...

Sorry if this is a little OT.

Hmmm...I have been interested in that same scope, but I let a European friend talk me into a fixed 6x instead (which I am very satisfied). He told me that the S&B 4x was made predominantly for the US market, and the 6x42mm was the "scope of choice" in Europe.

Again, sorry for chasing the rabbit.
Posted By: rj308 Re: Blazer single shot - 05/11/12
I was amazed when I took my new K95, in 270 Win. to the range and shot 1/2" groups with Remington 150 Core-Locks. I had never shot a 1/2" group in my life before. I have a 3x9 Ziess Conquest scope on it and all up weight is, if I remember correctly, 6 pounds 14 ounces.
Posted By: writing_frog Re: Blazer single shot - 05/11/12

I kept the scope, it's on my pre 64 model 70 in 243, good to have light scope on such heavy rifle (compared to my K1 or the Montana...)next week will go on a mod 70 past 64 in 222Rem, good enough for roes...
Don't think S&B x6 is really well used in Europe now, most hunters, like in the US, think bigger is better and variable are top notch. The fixed are'nt seen a lot on hunting grounds except the 7 or 8x52 or 56mm for night or low light hunting.

Just picked up a new Merkel K1 in 7rem Mag at Easter weekend. Nice little gun, looked at this one in the store two yrs ago, 4700.00, got it for 2500 this year. I didn't think I'd do any better than that deal. Put a 3-9x44 Zeiss w/RZ600 on it.
Very nice handling gun.

I've handled a Merkel stalking rifle and they are very nice. But having a Blaser R93 with several barrels and accesories, I traded for a K95 Prestige but with a couple of upgrades; namely a wood upgrade to AAA, an ebony tip forend, and an octagonal barrel. It took about a year before before it was in my hands.

Its a 30/06 (I almost ordered the rimmed 7x 65 R but for practical purposes went to the "old soldier"). In short, it's compact -- breaks down and fits in my Badlands pack -- is accurate with a very good trigger, and is well made.

Best to you frog.

I purchased a Merkel K1 7x57 R last fall. Nice gun. I also like the Blaser K 95. I almost bought a K 95 in 7mm magnum for moose but was concerned about the recoil.

Anyone seen the "stutzen edition" Blaser k95? (in the states)

It has the black receiver.

I've got a K1 Jagd Stutzen in .308 Win coming with my first Swarosvki sitting on top. I'm so excited I can barely set still.

I just bought a k95 in 7 mag and love it I just wondered if the extractor is supposed to bring the empty case farther out than it does. I would love to see a picture of one opened right after firing to see if mine is correct. If anyone could do that I would be more than grateful
Here is a Blaser K95 Luxus in 7x57; have an extra scoped barrel in 30/06. While I've not worked with the 7mm yet, both have 23.6" barrels, and the '06 will push 168-gr TTSXs to 2850 fps with H4350 and will do so with honest .75" for three shots.
Interestingly, it will do it on the range and not just on the innanet. grin Either will fit in my Badlands back, broken down, and are slated for deer and bear within the year.

I nevre knew that the Blazer had the same scope mounting/location limits as the Ruger #1. The Mount fix is classy looking if a little busy.

1B

Well, it is what it is which is heavy (all steel), repeatable, and very strong and secure. In keeping with the light weight of the rifle--under six pounds--you could argue, the Germans might have come up with a somewhat lighter ring/base system, but my experience with the R93 which has the same system, has shown it to be as reliable as any system that's "takedown" and better than many that aren't.
Posted By: blaser_guy Re: Blazer single shot - 09/27/12
George those lines on levers are designed to be horizontal level.
To get tension right you need a small blade screwdriver. Normally one comes with the ring base. You adjust on the off side so when you rotate the levers into proper position it is tight

Mine is the K95 Stutzen in 308. I also have a 22 Hornet barrel.
The top scope is a 2-7 Kahles in a older standard mount. The other two scope mounts are for rail scopes, one is 30mm and one is 1" tube. The rail mounts are very nice options

BG, you are right; just scoped the 7 and changed the scope on the '06. Thought while I had them out I'd take a few pic's before the sun got too low, but am not finished with the mounts yet. I di have the small blade screw drver.
Posted By: cooperfan Re: Blazer single shot - 09/27/12
George, what leupold scope is that? I am more than impressed that you can get that scope pushed so far forward in the rings. My blasers have all the scopes back as far as they can go and I still struggle with eye relief.

I also wish Blaser made lower rings for smaller objective scopes.

M8 4x.

I am not sure if it is just an optical illusion, but the new design "low" rings sure appear to be lower than the old lows.

[Linked Image]
The middle mount was from a used purchase several years ago. I knew it was lower and used it on the Leica on my 416 Rem. I always thought it was a factory variation till on another site someone pointed out it looked like Leupold rings adapted to fit

[Linked Image]
This is a Leupold ring for comparison. Sure looks like someone altered it. It has worked well on the 416
Posted By: cooperfan Re: Blazer single shot - 09/28/12
I seem to remember Heritage Arms (Aleko) was having rings milled down a bit and re-installed. Not sure if anyone is still doing that or not anymore.
Posted By: rj308 Re: Blazer single shot - 09/28/12
That is exactly what I did, probably 6 years ago on my K95 in 270 Win. I thought the standard Blaser rings were too high. I removed them from the mount and screwed on some low Leupolds that I cut off the dovetail, drilled and tapped them through the base. Now my scope sits as low as possible using the Blaser QD scope base.

Well, that is beyond my abilities. I would add that though I really like the Zeiss Conquest and the Z-Plex reticle, that scope seems too big for this grand little rifle. I will be seeing if there is something more fitting size-wise.

I agree with you about the conquest. I tried my 3.5-10x44 and it looked huge on the little K-95. I have also tried Swaro 2-10x42 and Minox 3-9x40 and feel those are also too large for the little rifle. I really want to put a 2.5-8x36 VX3 on there, but don't think it will look right because the ring height is way too high for a 36mm scope. I am checking now to see who cuts those blaser rings down and will report back if I find someone.
Posted By: blaser_guy Re: Blazer single shot - 09/28/12
Cooperfan depending on the scope there may be a limitation on how low you can go as seen on this 2-7 Kahles. It fits me fine so it doesn't need to go lower
[Linked Image]

Yea, I have no problem with the height of scopes with the Blaser proprietary ring/base set. It seems to work well with my proportions and my eyes.
