Guys in the shop here had assorted custom TC barrels on order with MGM, and had asked if i wanted anything made up...on a whim i decided to put together a lightweight low recoil carbine as a plinking gun, something relatively cheap to load for & that was pleasant to shoot.

Had them build a 17" stainless, .32 H&R Mag carbine and instead of a scope i stuck a williams peep and a hi-viz fiber-op front sight.

Weighs 4#, 4oz......

i used to shoot a lot of .32mags in revolvers and had a bunch of assorted jacketed & cast bullets, so i loaded up some various bullet combinations today using Longshot, 800X, Universal Clays, and WSF.

will give it a test run next week to see how it shoots, and i'll probably take a chrony to see what sort of speeds the .32mags will gain from a carbine length barrel.

That right there is a pig killer.
I think it looks like a monkey gun, meaning a gun for shooting monkeys, not FOR monkeys.

Very slick.

I like that carbine, it's perfect! - I have a Ruger Vaquero, 32 H&R Mag I like to shoot
and would love to have a small break open, single shot rifle, in the same caliber as a companion.
That should be a lot of fun.

Hummm, I know there's no way you're out of "Shorties"?

She's a beaut!

no shortage of shorties here, but there's nearly always room for one more... wink

.308 bore dia.?
I have never before had any urge to own a contender, but that is tempting. Do they still make stainless non-g2 (or whatever) actions? What does MGM stand for?

The apparent impossibility of just buying a complete rifle rather than a piece here and there always made them a non-starter. But this thing has got me thinking. Thanks for the pic.

Old style contenders are gone, but plenty of frames on the used market.

MGM = Match Grade Machine :

https://matchgrademachine.com/

http://edstc.com is now carrying MGM Contender barrels for $295 in carbine and a bit less in pistol.
Big fan of the G2 and have several MGM barrels, including a 17 Hornet.

I would also be interested in knowing if fyrepowerx ordered a .308 or a .312 barrel since I've considered a companion for my Ruger Single Six .32 H&R. .308 has some advantages in a state that is restricting leaded bullets, and I'd really like to know how your carbine shoots.

I think dropping the G2 was a truly dumb move, although of course I don't have the sales/profit margin numbers. From a shooter's point of view, it was DUMB.

Hope you and your friends found MGM as pleasant to deal with as I have. Someday soon I gotta make a road trip up there and meet those folks! There must be SOME way I can get there without driving anywhere near Las Vegas....
This one is a .312 bore; i had toyed with having it done with a .308 bore but i already have a barrel in .30 Reece ( shortened .30x357mag) of similar length with .308 bore so decided to go .312 bore on this one.

For those looking for the G2; TC announced a few days ago they will resume production in both carbine and pistol format.

I've known the folks at MGM since before they were MGM, they enjoy their work and when i ask them for oddball configurations, chamber specs, etc, they just smile and say no problem....good people to work with.

will post some load results, going to try to get this one to the range next week, i loaded up quite a few test load with 6 different bullets using Blue Dot, 800X, Longshot, will be assembling more with CFE pistol and AA#5 tonight.

Good news about the G2! I got too many barrels for my one frame!
