It appears mint and hardly used. Peering down the barrel the twist looks quicker than 1-14" but it's just a guess. Anything I should know about this year? Are barrels bad? This will be my first no1. Still have to scope it. Thanks Rob.
I had one in that age range though probably a bit older. It had a very long throat, but still held 5/8 inch five shot groups with my handloads. During that time Ruger bought their barrels and some were better than others. I believe mine was a Wilson based on the long throat. My son has the rifle now and it is still a good shooter. We are considering having it rebarreled just to see what a custom barrel can do.
Please take it to the range and put it through some paces. I'd like to hear how it shoots for you.
Ok. Acquired a period correct leupold fixed 12 scope with a.o. and picked up 2 medium extension rings and eye relief and scope height are good. Sighting in at 50 yards and am out of right adjustment with 8" to go. Exchanged front ring to back and ditto results. What's left to try? Lapping? Thanks Rob.
Another scope.
Took scope off and had a good look at the bases the rings clamp to. They look 'peened'? Or like somebody clamped the old rings before they were settled into the half moon cut outs. Going to replace these bases to see if they are the source of my shooting left issues. They are on the right side of both so it's a good chance.
Tried adding pics but it won't work for me.
Welcome to the world of Rugers. Hit and miss.
